suheric
I had this problem since I was born...T.T I always miss the ball on the hill of clubs. Specially, driver is the worst enemy... I tried to stand little further from the ball, but it encourage me to throw the club at the ball even more.... Im playing 9.5handicap with solid short game and putting, but I really want to hit solid drive.. If you guys know any drill or swing thought, plz help me out!! Oh, one more question about driver. Im playing Epon EMB right now, and I love the forgiveness. But, is there any driver really solid and long with hill shot???(If I cant change my swing, I gotta change the club...) First things first.Make sure the clubs fit you especially the lies! That has a big impact on where you strike the ball. After that is set get a mirror or have some watch or video you to see if you take the club away too far too the inside. This maybe one of the most common faults I see alot of people (myself included) make. You think/feel you are moving the club straight back but it sometimes is snatched way too far inside leading to alot of problens and rerouting on the downswing or just comming back to the ball from the inside too far leading to the heel hits.Check those out before you go canging the arrows. Goodsie
Go to your local Golf Store and buy an Impact Bag, stuff it full of towels. Then take your address position and place the club at the back of the Impact Bag and push it through the hitting area on out towards the target, then follow through. Do this over and over until you can feel that you can hold the angle of the right wrist or as Brett Smith advocates....straight left wrist, bent right. You follow this drill and you wil soon start catching the ball in the middle of the face without throwing the club head at the ball. Brett produced a Video clip on pushing the Impact Bag emphasizing the straight left, bent right wrist position. Be sure and watch it as it is a terrific visualization of the correct way to strike the ball. I hope this helps.
coops1967
I'm working on this with my pro at the moment - you need to keep your wrists 'soft' at end of backswing and transition. Will feel like your arms are also more relaxed and need to ensure you don't tighten up your grip. Best to ensure you fold the right arm on the backswing and cock the wrists early if you can, and feel as if you keep that cocked feel all thru the rest of the swing - they'll uncock on their own if you let them, and don't try to force it. Just read Booby Clampett's 'The Impact Zone' and i'd recommend it - it covers this essential idea of lag and the flat left wirst thru impact in great depth.... starting with the putter (!) then chips, pitches up to full swing. Seems like a lot of excellent stuff - particularly his finding that Pro's take a divot (their low point/bottom of swing) ~ 4 inches AFTER the ball.... progressively getting 'worse' as the handicap rises ie the 20+ h/capper will be hitting divots approx 2inches behind the ball up to about level with the ball position. (oh, he also points out that all the Pro's still hit slightly down with a driver, and their driver bottom of swing is still after the ball position...... trying to hit 'up' on the ball with the driver results in the flat left wrist breaking down, lag vanishing and poor shots.) Find a copy and enjoy......i'm off to the range in a short while... (Edited out some 'fat finger' typing errors....) Tyler Knott Gregson
I have to agree with the beauty and ease of having yourself videoed swinging. I've learned more about my swing, and all the tiny crap I'm doing wrong by just videoing myself, then slowing it down and sometimes even going frame by frame. Swing the club 20 or 30 times and video yourself from front, back, and both sides and you'll be able to see so much what your feet are doing, hands are doing, head, back, eyes, everything. The ability to see yourself how you Can't, makes it so much easier to transition from HEARING what you're doing wrong from someone else, to SEEING it for yourself. Invaluable, if you ask me.
