Forgivness of AF-Tours

IMO the MP60's are more forgiving.

For a blade the AFTours are as forgiving as any I've hit. But they are a blade and when you get out towards the toe you do lose distance.

If you are consistantly around the sweet spot I don't think there is much difference between the two. You will notice the difference between the two if you are hitting off the toe.

Quite frankly if you are not hitting the sweet spot consistantly I would recommend the AF301's or better yet the new AF302's.

Any more news on the new 302's?

I've spotted one pic of the rear cavity - some minor weight shifting from the 301's (no need for major changes anyway, i'd say....) - anything else new apart from conforming grooves? Any new finishes......?

Just for info years in the future for replacing my 301's........ ;-)

I just received my Epon AF Tours about 2 weeks ago that I got built from the Mobile Golf Lab. The blades are definitely some of the most forgiving. The last 2 rounds I played were in the mid to high 70s. Ever since I switched to the clubs, I dropped a few strokes. The KBS tour 5.5 shafts really complement the clubs well. To be honest though I have lost yardage with these clubs due to the weak lofts compared to my older players cavities. I will post a review soon.

I agree the irons, number to number, probably don't go as far as most irons. But as stated the lofts are weaker, or what I call "old school".

For example, the PW is 48*. My golf partners PW is 45*. My 9 iron is 44* and is really close to the same distance as his PW. Quite frankly I prefer the weaker lofts.

IMO, Degree for degree they are as long as any other club.

Most people don't understand that the OEM's gain distance with their new iron sets by making the lofts stronger. Sure the 8 iron goes further now... it's 3,4,5* stronger than the older sets. :tsg_smilie_surprise:

I agree with idrive. For me, the AF-Tour are as long as anything, with perhaps the exception of the 701's, which is not my preferred style of iron but out of this world performance wise.

I have always played 'traditional lofts' and am still a club longer than my playing partners, some of whom bag modern lofted irons. Its obviously an individual preference.

A couple of my colleagues in Epon in Australia have tweeked the lies 1* flat and one has strengthened the lofts, if you're not getting the feel that you want, and should get, perhaps make those modifications. I havent touched mine as far as loft/lie goes as I got pure feel as the are.

As to forgiviness, I mucked around in practice yesterday hitting a few from out near the toe. I lost about 1/2 a club distance which is pretty good for a blade. Although I obviously have a vested interest, the balance and performance of the AF-Tour is exceptional IMO.

The KBS 5.5 has been a perfect match.
