driverhead
I finally received the Yamaha 2010 inpres X D201 Type S Driver. Over the holidays it took almost 3 weeks to clear US customs. Since we had a record snow in the DC area and are having the coldest winter in 25 years it has been difficult to get any golf in. Anyhow we had a break in the weather and I played in a winter PRO AM scramble yesterday after an extended range session on thursday. The specs are 10 degree type S with a stock ORBit shaft. The shaft is very light at 48 grams, but the torque is 4.7. I didnt get A shaft upgrade as it is winter and I wanted a baseline to work off. As we get into the real golf season I will try different shaft setups in this head. The type S club is engineered to go straight or fade, but the 4.7 torque in the stock shaft caused the club to turn over a bit more on a hard swing. When I made a smooth pass , The head and feel at impact was amazing. It was very lively and explosive off the face. I hit some very long tee shots with this club yesterday. The ball flight had a nice flat trajectory with good carry and a nice angle of descent. It was the most explosive feeling face off the driver Ive ever tried. I am really tempted to try the Yamaha Tour model v201 460 with the ROMBAX J setup. Bottom line... With the right setup A BIG UPSIDE.
bogeydog
Driverhead, Yes I heard about the ProAm yesterday. I live in the area so we should meet up and swing the Yamaha stuff. I have the 2010 Tour irons and the 2009 Tour driver with the Griffin JPGA shaft. I alkso feel the 09 is superb and have waffled back and forth if mnuch could be better. It would be cool to tests these out side by side. It may help us both to decide whether to buy the V201. Pm me if interested Bob I finally received the Yamaha 2010 inpres X D201 Type S Driver. gocchin
Yamaha has always made amazing drivers. I am a big fan of the feel and pop they produce at impact. Being Endo made they are pure quality. Your order sure took a long time to clear customs but I'm glad you finally got it. It's been a long time since I gamed a Yamaha but am considering the D201. The face seems more shallow than Yamaha's of the past.
suheric
I'm thinking about getting same driver with stock shaft. So, you got the 10 degree and SR flex shaft, right? Actually, that's the same spec I'm thinking. So, I'd like to know little more about the trajectory and the run. Also, I always strugle with high launching angle, how does this driver work for you? Thank you in advance. Eric I finally received the Yamaha 2010 inpres X D201 Type S Driver. Over the holidays it took almost 3 weeks to clear US customs. driverhead
I'm thinking about getting same driver with stock shaft. So, you got the 10 degree and SR flex shaft, right? Actually, that's the same spec I'm thinking. So, I'd like to know little more about the trajectory and the run. Also, I always strugle with high launching angle, how does this driver work for you?Thank you in advance. Eric You can vary the ball flight. Tee it mid to low and you will hit stinger shots. I got the best results teeing the ball higher than normal. I would hit a towering high shot that carried miles. Its hard to evaluate the run aspect because the turf in my home course is either semi frozen or mud depending on the amount of sunlight the hole gets. I got the SR flex as its winter and has been very cold and I havent swung much in 6 weeks. I am a smooth tempo swinger 100 to 105 mph. When the weather gets warmer there is no way this shaft will hold up for me. Im leaning to putting an MD 6 , diamana 63 blue S, or GD EV in there. ANy time I got aggressive I hit a quick draw. IM thinking that the V201 460 would be a better in season fit for me, but Im very excited about the upside of this club. This is the 1st driver in years that I get a significant increase in distance when I PURE IT. Ive hit 4 career drives in the 1st 36 holes in Jan winter conditions.
