shoutout33
Sup people! This question is initially for gocchin, but anyone can chime in if they have some input. As you all know, (and in case you didn't...) I will be getting some KZG RAW blades built for this years season. I've aleady hit them in the satin finish, so I know that I love them and can hit them too. It'll just be a different type of feel from what I was told, but not by much. It had me thinking though, "Who else makes RAW irons?". My concern for this, is because the KZG RAW blades have been discontinued for a while now and they aren't making them or any other RAW irons in the future. So, seeing that I like the feel of a RAW iron, where do I go when these darlings of mine can't be played any more? Now, I do know about VEGA's stuff and my club fitter sells them as well, but those things are expensive! By the time I need them though, I should be able to afford them. But still, I haven't been able to find any other companies, as of yet, that make RAW blades. Since I understand this to be a type of finish like chrome, satin, and black oxide, could one ask for this to be done to their irons? If so, who out there, whether component, JP Spec or OEM gives this option? Many thanks in advance and look foward to your replies.

There is Vega which is made by Kyoei, your KZG's which were made by Kyoei, Yururi which too area made by Kyoei, Gold's Factroy can do it and pretty much any custom tailored club brand can do it per request. It's cheaper for them to not have to a plating on the club, they actually get to skip 2 of the last steps in production. The feel is good and soft but I can't really say better or softer. I used to think in the past that RAW = softest possible but found that hasnt always been the case. Depending on where you live or how you take care of your clubs will make a big difference in how long they last.

Hmmm, I was wondering why Kyoei was starting to grow on me. LOL! I guess my next questions would be, "Since they get to skip two steps, does that mean that the price is lower because of it?" and "What's the best way to take care of my RAW blades?". PS By the way, love your sig and avatar. Samurai's with swords and sub-machine guns with silencers. LOL! Gotta' love it! Where did you find them? Spoon
I have a raw set of players cb and the same macthing wedges. they initially rust but they are easy to maintain as long as you are meticulous in oiling and drying. down the road they arent signficantly softer, also be wary of where you play in if your in a tropical area you have a greater chance of wearing them down. i say yes in wedges nay in irons. just me though
gocchin
All the Zestaim irons are available raw I would assume. Kyoei told me that they are available for custom finish so they could be left raw. We've done the Vega V Muscle as well in a black raw finish: http://www.tourspecgolf.com/m69/Kyoei-Golf/index.html So I think in that link all Fi-2 models as well as the V Muscle can be raw. As you already know Yururi and Gold's Factory as well.

Just because its a step or two less doesnt mean a difference in price on the msrp level imo. Care is vital with raw irons, salt and water kills so does humidity, baby oil or WD40 should do the job, a quick groove cleaning, wipe down, and spray of oil after each round should keep them purdy a long time. Spoon
and dont make the same mistake i did. did a thorough cleaning and oiling only to put back in my wet neoprene iron covers and they were rusty in the morning. also in a span of one wet afternoon , my raw irons were forming rust spots in less than a round. i cleaned with a steel brush and voila back to normal. remember raw irons are more maintenance than a no brainer nic/chrome etc etc finish. idrive
IMO Raw is a pain in the a** and not worth the trouble. They are not softer than most of the platings.
shoutout33
IMORaw is a pain in the a** and not worth the trouble. They are not softer than most of the platings. Aw man, why you hatin'? LOL! I hear you, and understand your opinion. There are a few reasons why I am going with forged: 1.) I played with my Dad's old set of Golden Bear MacGregor's musleback's bad in the day. They rusted pretty good, but still played well. Plus, I still remember how they felt when I hit them pure. Made me really concentrate on good ball striking. Didn't hit them that well that often, but it made me try to make a good swing, so I could get that pure shot feeling again. 2.) To me, there is a difference between the various finishes. For example, I abosolutely LOATHchrome finished blades! Even when I hit them pure, it feels like I'm hitting a hammer. On top of that, to me they're ugly and not pleasing to my eye. I've hit different chrome plated blades and cavity backs, and they all felt like hammers! I can do satin, black oxide, and raw, but I just can't do the chrome stuff. 3.) The main reason, outside of 1 & 2, is that my club fitter is giving me a really, really good deal on my KZG RAW heads. I hit them in satin and loved them, but when he said that he had them in RAW (and explained what that was...) I was hooked. So yeah, RAW's can be a pain, but shouldn't we take good care of are irons anyway? The way I look at it, they just need a little more TLC.
