+TourSpecGolfer
R9 Forged Irons Taylormade Japan has some new releases prepared for announcement at the 2010 Tokyo Golf Show Including one we have all been waiting for the R9 Forged Irons. There are two new R9 labelled irons coming to the Japan market both are forged. Most people were expecting only one forged model but Taylormade Japan has stepped it up offering another model that we consider more user friendly for the player yet not game improvemnt by any means The standard R9 Forged Iron is made using a cast steel body with a soft forged mild S25C face and features an undercut cavity to increase forgiveness. The R9 Forged standard model features #3 thru #7 irons with a two piece construction while #8 to PW uses one piece forged construction. The target player for the standard R9 Forged model is still the mid- low handicap player as Tour Pro's in Japan do intend to put this set into play. Several JLPGA women will be putting it into play within the next few events in Japan. The R9 Forged TP is the model we have all been waiting for, it's a limited edition release that is set to launch in March. TourSpecGolf has a couple of demo irons on the way and will be posting images and video live from the 2010 Tokyo Golf Show only a few weeks away. The R9 Forged TP was designed with the help of Nick Faldo and other top Japanese golf pro's. It is supposed to become Taylormades flagship professional use iron on the JPGA tour. No word if it will ever see the U.S shores but for those interested TourSpecGolf will have them available for Pre Order very soon!
parputt
So the non TP is sort of like the Mizuno MX-300 with the long irons and mid irons undercut cavity and the short irons solid no undercut.I know the Mizunos are 100% forged not just the faces but they still are gonna be a hit for diehard TM players who like the Mizuno concept. EPONfreak
Chris, who is forging these for TM?
gocchin
The concept of undercut disappearing in the short irons has been done by many manufactures including epon's AF-501. The dual material construction is meant to increase durability as the sole and back cavity of a forged iron can sure get dinged and chattered up. As alwas TM does not say who forged the iron but I would not be overly surprised if they were forged at different makers from one another due to the materials and technologies. Not everyone can do a fancy multi piece forging with two different materials. We're looking at an early march release for the TP and May for the standard. 18th Legion
Thanks gocchin. Could you re-post the chart, the R9 TP info somehow is split? Would much appreciate any comparisons that you guys can do between; R9 TP -v- Burner TP R9 Forged -v- Burner Forged Of course side by side photos, and impressions of control, feel, and distance. The R9 TP looks like a cross between the 2009 TP Forged and the current R9 TP B. It appears to have the new material in the head. I had nearly decided on the Burner Forged for this coming year, now this!!! Edited February 2, 2010 by 18th Legion
Robinw1
I'd also interested in a comparison between the R9 Forged and the 09 Burner Forged. Thanks, rw
gocchin
Because neither the r9 Forged or r9 TP Forged are out yet, its hard to make direct comparisons. I have however already contacted TM to ask for advance demos of both so we shall see.
