xxio
Deal is I have to buy something TM and something Japan. Narrowed it down to these two. Anyone compare size, offset, and feel?
gocchin
Quite different irons with different target audiences. Burner TP has very little offset and is a small cb while the burner forged has offset and is closer to mid sized. Both are quite soft, even the TP considering its cast. I did comparison on the blog however not with each other as they targeted different level golfers Burner forged vs R9 forged http://www.golftoimpress.com/2010/08/taylormade-japan-burner-forged-and-r9-forged-comparison/ Burner TP vs R9 TP http://www.golftoimpress.com/2010/03/r9-tp-forged-vs-burner-tp-taylormade-iron-comparison/
xxio
T, Thank you. Looks like off to find Burner TPs...I see someone had the same thoughts in the wtb already.
bruinduke
Hi xxio, hope you're well. Judging by our past discussions of where you are at your game, it sounds like the Burner TP may line up better if looking for a player cb. I can't speak on the burner TP having never tried them, but I was lucky enough to track down a set of burner forged irons and currently game them as my main iron. T's review of the burner forged captures the irons pretty well. I was about to dismiss the burner forged as being too soft, too straight, and too high hitting when I first hit them at the range. I got more feedback and just as much distance from my set of Tourstage xblade 701 irons. I decided to stick with the burner forged irons though, because as T noted, they suit a mid capper profile very well. They have some workability, but the stock shot with these irons are just short of point-and-shoot. As for appearance, outside of potential issues with size of head, you would be hard pressed to name a better looking TM iron, including all of the Japanese TM forged offerings. xxio
Duke, I wish I could still say I'm a decent player. Breaking 80 is no longer automatic nowadays, unless I get an extremely hot putter. Nagging injuries messed up my swing. Doing a lot of equipment changes to suite my current abilities. Going stronger lofts all throughout to get a little distance back as well. Just picked up a set of the JDM '11 Nike ProCombos. Nice the 46* pw helps, but since I'm getting rid of couple of weaker lofted sets the Burner TPs will be the replacements for those.
