tsikenjoy
hi guys, just wanted to ask if anyone tried both these clubs and can give me a feedback on the difference. My friend is thinking of buying the AP2, he also wants to try the VG3 but unfortunately we can't find any shops here in the east coast to try it out... are they comparable as far as forgiveness? are they made for the same type of golfers? thanks, any info is appreciated. Mjr. D
Great question. I'm wondering the same thing!
stevopagolf
Great question. I'm wondering the same thing! I asked Gocchin the question months ago. he said the closest comparison size wise to the VG3 is the Titleist AP2. I had asked him to compare to the Mizuno JPX 800 Pro, but they don't have the JPX in Japan. I am sure the VG3 is super well made since it is Endo forged. Just ordered a set... +TourSpecGolfer
Yup I love the VG3, its got minimal offset yet a top line that isn't razor thin which to me equals lots of forgiveness + confidence! I'm going to see whats new and available at the Golf Show next week. If nothing tickles my fancy im back with the VG3 or Epon 302's. One thing to note is the VG3 has gotta be one of the most highly demanded irons in Japan. The back orders are silly. We can find sets quickly if your willing to wait on the #4 iron or be flexible on set make up and specs.
ukok
Although, I have only tried the Titleist AP2, 7 iron at the range, I am gaming the VG3's (with 4 iron) which I managed to purchase from one of the site members. I installed Steel fiber composite shafts and have to say these are one of the sweetest irons I have owned, Great distance (at least one club longer), soft feel and a very clever design where you do not see the back cavity even on the 4 iron at address. They make the AP2's a very poor relation but will cost almost treble the price with a decent shaft. The quality of the club is excellent with all heads matching in weight etc which is obviously down to Endo, which cannot normally be said for Titleist irons. In all, if you can afford them, buy them. tsikenjoy
thanks for the input guys.... tourspecgolfer, how long is the wait if we order the VG3?
gocchin
I am gaming the VG3 now and I have compared it side by side with the AP2. Size wise they are very very close and this includes offset and topline. Both are very good feeling but the VG3 has the edge in both forgiveness due to the deeper style pocket cavity and the stronger lofts and variable weighting. The VG3 is considered by most publications in Japan as the leading smallish/mid sized cavity for distance and forgiveness while still providing Endo feel. I actually preferred the feel of the VG3 as vibration dampening rubber can provide mixed feedback and is a personal thing. People are still waiting for around 4 weeks for their sets but it really depends on specs/shaft.
Nashibae
I game the VG3 irons and they are good quality sticks. I had the same problem with deciding between them and the AP2. Let me share some of the thoughts and reasoning I had in deciding to get the VG3 irons. First, the FEEL on both flush shots and slight mis**ts was better. Endo forged, enough said! Second, the design and technology that went in to the VG3 is outstanding, especially the tungsten weighting. The weights are specifically placed in the 4, 5, 6 and 7 to manipulate forgivness and trajectory. In the 8 to PW there is no tungsten weighting which helps raise the CG and lower the trajectory on those 'must hit accurate' short irons. In the AP2 the tungsten weight are in all the irons even the short irons. The stronger lofts allow me to swing easier and more in control and still hit the ball the same distance as my old mizuno. The VG3's lofts are one club stronger. The beauty of swinging with a smoother (3/4 type) tempo is that when I need to put one out there, just a little longer than my standard yardage on my iron.... I can!!! Useful from the rough or when in trouble. Finally, VG3 irons are JAPAN ONLY exclusive, Endo forged, sticks of innovative Japanese design and technology with a Titleist badge!!! Awesome bragging rights!!! AP2's are a dime a dozen in both availability and feel. My VG3’s have KBS Tour shafts which lower the flight and improve the feel.... Good luck with your search.
