2 wedge set up advice 52 + 56/57

Recommended Posts

building another two wedge set up my other one is a 50/56 combo but need another

set for my current gamers, which has a pw loft of 47* so looking for a 52 and 58 or 56 bent to

57*. i open my sandwedge a lot so need something with the versatility for opening .

also need something non-conforming with lots of bite. need my sandwedge to be high bounce

as i exclusively play in surfaces that are plush and well watered. for the 52 i usually play this

with full swings so somthing that will work in that department. my current 50 208 kgx is awesome!

choices are the yonex ezone, yururi non conforming tours and even the kenmochi. the yonex though

is conforming but i really like the grind and onset. so if you guys have advice let me know. willing to

consider other brands. thanks

I was also recently looking to build a 2-wedge system too and was recommended Sky Dream Jump. I checked them out and thought they were what I, or any golfer, would want in a wedge -- good looking, well made, available in a variety of loft and bounce, and most importantly, pack a loadful of bite. I ordered a pair, in fact, but strangely, I don't see SDJ mentioned in the last few forum threads on wedges.

im actually considering bending my current 208 to 52 and just replacing my SW. its the sw i have problems with especially on the lush courses i play.

will defintely check out the sky dream jumps now.

The ones on TSG are non-conforming but they have some new models that are. You can find out more on their web site; just google for the address.

I play a 52/7 58/10 system & for me its versatile enough. My 52 is kinda utility covering knockdowns from 80y to 110y fuller shots. 58 is my sand/strong lob

That was my old setup, I'm going back to it

I play 52/58 combo usually. I have issues with the 105 ish range. I can get my 52 to 105 but consistency suffers as sometimes I over swing. I de loft it a bit with a forward press and i lose the stop and drop result I desire at that range.

I used to have the P, 52/58 or 51/57 wedge combo but now changed to a 4 wedge set up. My Legacy P is 44 so decided to use the stock A which is 49*. Now add a 54* low bounce and a 58* with higher bounce. The 54* low bounce would give me clean contact on tight lies on approach yet high enough loft for drop and stop shots.

aside from my pw 47, will just bend my 50 to 52, so all i need now is a higher bounced 56 or 58 bent to 57*

finding a good SW is just as tough as finding a reliable 3wood. im very particular about my SW.

Hey C, Bending to a higher loft = adding more bounce? I guess with the grind options nowadays, you can open up the club without having too much impact on bounce.

well bending to 52 will increase the bounce but i can live with that.

the sandwedge on the other hand depending on what i do bend up or down will

only change the bounce by 1*. and since im pretty decent with opening my wedge,

im hoping i find one with a very user friendly grind to aid me with this. my current

wedge is ok but to low bounce for those ever crucial full shots.

not so comfy with using 3/4, 1/2 swings with my 50.

I'm not so sure that opening a wedge only adds a degree of bounce. I suppose it depends on the size of the flange and the location of the bounce. There are just too many factors that can influence a delicate wedge shot, which might explain why the OEM's have separated the wedges from the irons these days.

Good luck in finding the wedge you need.

meant bending my wedge 1 degree from a 56 or 58. actual bounce will only change 1*

I like your simple approach to go 47 / 52 / 56 or 57

4 wedge choices that I like:

1.) Hand grinded Kenmochi KW-02 wedge made by Master Norio Kenmochi.

Conforming but still good bite, minimal offset (I know you prefer onset but...) and easy to open up.

Satin finish is not quite as sexy as some other finishes, but it will keep its clean sleek look much longer than most black finishes.

2.) Cleveland CG15

Played this wedge all last year in 2010 model (non-conforming).

Fantastic wedge, VERY easy to open up.

3.)Cleveland 588 which has been a HUGE favorite for decades. That is what I now play and highly recommend you take a look at.

I play the 588 in gap wedge-53/08* and sand wedge-56/14*

4.) Callaway JAWS wedge. Will shred your golf ball to pieces it spins the ball so much.

Good luck in your search!
