Spoon
well i have been wanting to do this experiment for some time now, after much consultation with stew, goodsie and the gang i have decided to go the Graphite design route as i have had so much success with these as of late. The p9003x has also been creeping at the back of my mind and driving me insane so i had to get one to see what the mythical status was about. Not wanting to be left out of the spotlight, the burlwood 1/1 360 driver was begging to be taken to play as it was getting real bored hanging out in the shelves with snooty bottles of single malt. will shaft her with a di8s. just got the shafts p9003x and a di8s. snapped some pics im curios about the markings on the shafts: the P9003x says 7.9 and 79. im assuming that the shaft is 7.9 frequency and the weight is 79grams? close as spec'd weight is 80 grams? the DI8s on the other hand says 7.4 and 82? Likewise im assuming the frequency is 7.4 which is about right and the weight looks close to the 84 specd weight.? can anyone shed light on these markings ? if they indeed are the freq and weight ? here are pics clubs as we speak are being sent to the doctor and will be done in a couple of hours. will be back with the specs of the finish drivers later. going to be a busy weekend. Spoon
back from the doc. clubs assembled and ready to rock was eyeing 45 for both but the specd out to a whopping d6 for the 360/di8s combo. apparently the little bugger is heavy, cut it down to 44.75 and its still tips the scales at D4. oh well will see. specs: 380CC EPON w p9003x 45" gd 2g grip SW-D2 273cpm ( perfecto!) 360cc EPON w DI8S 44.75" GD 2g grip SW-D4 256 cpm ( wtf????) im perplexed about the cpm of the DI8S i was expecting something in the mid to high 60s. my older di6s was 253. no tipping was done to the shafts per goodsie's advice. hmmm i guess for now all i can do is forget i even know the numbers and hit the goods. sometimes its better not to know at all. ahh info overload. will game the thundersticks tom, loser will get yanked out and will be the sacrificial 3w shaft as was part of the original plan. the DI8s was intended to be for my 3w as i snapped my quattro. but i could not resist to put the orange shaft into the burlwood orange-esque driver head. you gotta admit its a good fine looking specimen. im pretty sure that if trimmed to length should bump up cpm to the mid 70s. Spoon
Ok I hit a couple of hundred balls and gamed oth drivers today. I'm quite surprised with the results but not complaining as it's a win Win situation IMHO. And I get to try another shaft for the big dog. The non performing shaft was inteded for my 3w but at this point I don't see the point. Does not make sense to put this shaft in my 3w. Alas both drivers being pulled right now. The one I preferred among the 2shafts I gamed was the Di8s. Was so Wishing for the p9003x to be the winner but it wasn't. Even though it was the Lighter feeling shaft it did not live up to my expectations . I loved the weight But I felt I could not load the shaft with my normal temp, could not really go at it, Had to de tune my swing ich is very alien to me. I had some really long shots with This but was in the minority. I think the problem was the higher kicking profile, Was struggling tons unlike the 9003 which was a breeze to use albeit the weight. Now for the di, I already knew I was going to like this shaft as I liked the di6s but Found it too spiny, this one is significantly better , nice mid launch , nice kicking Powerful shaft with tonsof roll. This mid low kick shaft is my preferred profile and Feels like a very rigid smooth, rubber band. Totally ballistic without sacrificing any feel. This was the friendlier shaft and i could go after it and would still go straight. I had more Left side English with the p9003 than this one. So am i putting this shaft into my 380cc gamer? No I am not. Am putting the di8 in the 3w Which was the original plan. Will crush that combo. I'm getting the quasar fex proto 75s for the driver. Thisnis the last piece o the puzzle. Hope that one doesn't disappoint. Should have gone that route from the Very begining. Will game the di8s on the 3w on Sunday. Won't have a driver but I don't mind. To be concluded on septemberish. bogeydog
The Quadra Proto will be a great "___________". I started to say experiment, but mean experience. I love mine in the Yamaha. It is so satisfying to hit and will take anything I can give it. I swear that I have put a slice swing on it and seen the ball start to curve right and then stop and go straight. It is the damndest thing.

supo
bogey im in a quadry what to put in my yamaha 440 power length, im pulling the ahina 60 s its way to long at 46 inch and too light. and thinking of putting either the p9003x, the roddio tour s7 x or after spoons experiment the di7x but ................... im still considering a quadra or a crazy the proto ive got is in my epon 102 but in not happy with how im playing it. its one of those if i go to it once i hit it poorly but if i constantly hit it il leventually get it wired. it great for in oz when i can play every day. the yammy head sits a little more upright which i absolutely love the look of and that will counter the tendency of the proto to favour the right side. in the yammy does the qaudra sing? You already have the yamaha and your proto in the 102 why not just try the proto in the yamaha? If it works then You won't have to experimenter you can try the di7x since it's pulled already and try it in the yamaha. My suggestion is to try the yamaha and the di7x. It's one he'll of a shaft. IMHO the Di ended the and the newer Nano tech shaft offerings from GD ushered in a new era of shafts.
bogeydog
Stew, I haven't tried the 440 however there are now 5 Yammys in my group (2 with Quadra FEX and 3 with Quadra FEX Protos) and within 20 miles of each other. One guy is hitting the Inpres 4.6V on a rope 320. His son hits it even further. They play a SX and X flex respectively. It is a beautiful sight. For me, it is a control monster. I don't know if it is the longest shaft out there, but it is plenty long for me. The ability to hit fairways is staggering though. I think the secret is stepping down 1/2 flex. I did it with an SR, and the 2 big hitters did it also. One guy who has a strong natural draw, opted for a stronger flex in the non proto and it straightened him out. So IMO, yes it songs in the Yammy.

I was actually hinking of going sx but with such an expensive shaft Was thinking the 75s the safer route to go to.
bogeydog
Spoon, I agree with the increase in shaft weight. The Yamaha 4.6v heads are 202g which is on the heavy side but since they work so well with the Quadra shafts I am thinking the shaft profile likes the heavy heads. Since you Epon is heavy maybe you will experience the same.

I used to game my 102 w 65s at 45.25 With the 380 will do around 44.5 or even 44.75 w the proto 75s
bogeydog
Mine is 45". The 2 guys with the SX and X are 45.5".
