DaleUK
Before I start I'm in no way unhappy nor am I trying to offend ..... I recently bought a driver with a " medium" Quality JDM Shaft, and tonight I went down the range. Now, again the range in question doesn't use Quality Golf balls but that said I have used the range before with lesser clubs/shafts! After a few shots I was wondering just how much "extra" distance one could expect with buying a Premium shaft over a Stock run of the mill offerings from Main stream Suppilers!??? What I noticed is that my ball flight had "Straightened" up and that the range ball ran like mad once on the ground. The bad shots would have hung on to the fairways and the good shot had a nice shape. As for Distance it was hard to tell, I know last year I had the longest drive on Captains day(297 yards) with a Average club, again on Presidents Day hit a 295 Drive ..but I can't see my new set up bettering either!? I shall have a much more clearer picture after the weekend once I've game the new set up . I'm more than pleased but maybe, just maybe I expected explosive distance... Over all it as a nice feel and I'm happy. ! Edited August 19, 2011 by DaleUK
supo
If u get the right shaft u will be straighter either lower or higher and either more or less carry depending on what specs ur after And esp if u go heard at it the results are the same engines ain't engines
Eca
Dale, I went thru a period, around the 4th to 6th game thinking the same as you. If you read what you wrote, the answer is there. The quality & consistency should equate to you going for the GIR 3 or more times on average better. The joy of shaping those drives as well. For the price, I also expected some magic distance gain but instead got a much longer average drive & higher % fairway hit. It took me about a dozen rounds to be at ease with what I spent. I think what is most important but most elusive and hardest to do is to find a shaft to match your swing, head, ball combo especially for amateurs as our swings are just not that consistent. Many have said that can be addressed with range monitors, simulators etc but I have found all those numbers to not account for much. That best fiiting is dynamic range fitting where you have to see with actual balls what your final ball flight is and what it does once the ball hits the ground. Not many fitters do that as it is tiome consuming and expensive. With all that said, one may very well find that a stock setup does indeed suit his swing without needing to add on a $1000 shaft. If the stock shaft works, it works and that is the end objective for fitting. For me, I have found stock shaft to not work for me most of the time. Maybe it's just in the head but I've always at least spined even the stock shaft if I did not change them and for me, having tried most all and sundry form Fujikura, Diamana, practically all the US brand shafts, Mamiya et al, I find that generally speaking, my messed up swing is best served by Graphite Design Tour ADs range for all my woods and whenever I need a shaft, I really only look at the GD Tour AD range. I digress... if the stock setup works, play it and use the money saved from chnaging shafts to get a nice Epon staff bag. :-)
DaleUK
Well I'm a week or so into this new set up and I'm now totally blown away..... Totally! It's become a standard joke with my playing buddies... They all wanna use it and I now have to wait on the Tee to hit my own club! I'm finding more fairways, hitting it longer( mainly as my confidence is growing...)although I'm still going strong side left! Infact we all hit a strong draw now??? the feel from the shaft/head is out of this world So on reflection I'm well happy....very happy
