Spoon
ive been using those a12 adams with the altus shaft in 20 + 23 * it feels awful tingy and just plain ugly but it gets the job done wonderfully small draws, bang on 200and 220 yards they are low tho, i cant hang off one , gotta swing thru ,right thru it or the results are catasrtophic hate having these in palce of my JDM but i cant fault them whats a man to do huh??????? i do have one GIGANTIC problem tho i have 2 crazy ute shafts in some TEE utes in 16* 18* that i want to use. the utes arnt long enough to take the place of the 5w. and 18* is an in between club, doesnt really serve any purpose all thing being equal do itake these out and put them in the adams heads i guess i prob shud considering how well im hitting them. but then agn the altus .. if its not broken . dont fix it. i hear you! my adams is the odd ball in my pure jdm bag. it should be booted out based on origin but it works, i have no qualms replacing it with the next jdm hybrid of similar physique. i had a disastrous utterly disastrous day today with my 4 wood experiment. 2 months ago i had some success with my DI8s in my interim ping k15 played at d3 43', it was bloody long but being a SGI club it was closed faced and draw biased. that translated to some major draws so i pulled the head out, it felt alright but i liked the balance and feel of the club. fast forward to last weekend i had an adams speedline tour only 17* shafted with a machline fw65 played at 43" my gosh that thing was bloody long but found the shaft on the lighter side so being the restless tinkerer i pulled the shaft and decided to play the di8s, cant go wrong right? well everything that could possibly go wrong happened. was a domino effect that ruined my entire afternoon. same length at 43" the club felt like a macedonian war axe! i had no time to get the swing weight or the specs but i could defintely feel the heft. first couple of holes were ok, had to adjust and put in a nice slow tempo but by the fourth hole i was swinging beyond my tempo and every ball i tried to slay felt like a saracen! the static weight of this axe was just a burden. infected my tempo for the remaining part of my round, game over! perplexed, do some muddling and find out that the damn weight plug on the head is a tour issue tungsten 25g weight. stock is 2 and 4 grams. combine that with the titanic di8s and you have a club Thor would be proud off. dont know what the next move is. pulling the combo tomorrow. you know what you can do with those utes shafts? give them a go with the Epon 18* ute play it longer length. i might revisit that route for now as the ryoma FWs are delayed til november. Spoon
after gaming a beautiful 4+ BBD type H 16* i have effectively removed the need for a 3/5 wood combination. the 16 is long off the tee, has the height and is also forgiving from the fairway. now i already mentioned the di95s is on the heavy side and paired with the heavy 18* adams is honestly a heavy combo after getting the perfect weighting on the 4w 70 gm shaft, the hybrid is suddenly so heavy. also the 18* off the tee is amazing, but the 16* 4 wood does the job much higher and longer. also the 18 is not the easiest thing to hit from the fairway so after getting the 4w right, the 18 suddenly seems redundant. next move is probably an epon 21* with crazy utility shaft. Spoon
So is the 18* going back to dad? Nope, he has the epon 18 already. The Adams w di95s is a great club Don't want to break that combo up. She will be posted in the fs section soon. A club like that will be better suited for a Power hitter. No need for a 5 w with that One.
Spoon
a lot of things can happen in 3 weeks, 3 weeks seems like an eternity to anyone whos used to tinkering with their clubs, i have succumbed at last! discovered a lot of things about my swing and that im better with certain kinds of gear than others. first of all all the hybrids are gone, been picked off, donated and sold to others who will find better use of it than me. in the very sense of the word a hybrid term here has been generalized, combining the advantages of an iron with the more forgiving nature of a wood. it is a different animal altogether , while they work for most they certainly do not work for me. In the past months i have owned the onoff ute, yamaha, trc RC, epon 902 adams etc etc, none of them lasted a month in my bag, thinking it was me, i went on a tireless search for the perfect ute, and finally i found it. The DRIVING IRON!!! i find that i am awkward, clumsy when i pull the hybrid out of the bag. so i just left it out of the bag and started using my trusty epon 901 22 bent 21 with steel! wow awesome, better than any ute i have tried works for me , i can hit it like all my irons and its freakin long! better yet its my go to club. recently reshafted with a shimada tour lite s. like dragons fire been breathed into the club, totally different beast, very user friendly and strong aggressive trajectory. driver-4w-22!! 22* go to club, maestro maestro! made sense to get an 18* which is exactly what i did, ordered the srixon 18 z uti and will shaft it with a crazy black ute, for now i have a 901 19* bent to 18* shafted with my new TOUR ad DI-85S. i think this will be better than the heavy pole-like feel of my di-95s, that felt like a px 7.5 steel seriously. no flex no rebound no game! while im at it i will also do a head to head test between the new kid (18 srix 18 pimpin the new crazy black ute) vs the veterano 901 w tour proven DI hybrid shaft. real excited. not wanting to be left out of the party senor PRGR REP will join the and contribute his much anticipated skills . stay tuned
