Went for a visit to my club fitter in UK today to test:

Pro Modus 3

KBS tour

Shimada Pro

As a bench mark, I hit one of my current club - 7 iron Miura blade with PX (6.2) - distance (av) 150 carry and 165 total, spin 5200 (Pro V1)

Then hit 6 irons (these were the demo's):

Shimada Pro in stiff - 160 carry 175 total, spin 5400 - felt heavy and had to work it - did not likey at all

Pro Modus 3 (stiff flex) - 178 carry, 195 total, spin 5000 - WOW, WOW, WOW what a MEGA AWESOME shaft

KBS Pro (stiff) - 175 carry, 190 total, spin 5300 - felt a bit similar to Modus 3, but stiffer and had to work it harder

Tried Modus 3 again, but added a bit more weight to club - felt even better and went about four yards further.

Conclusion:

Going with Modus 3 in a stiff - really amazed at the feel and spin - hit 10 balls each shaft and the results for each shaft were consistent and the Modus 3's were by far the best (all tested on trackman). Swing speed av 86mph. Just felt I had to swing the club nice and easy rather than have to feel I had to have swing hard.

These shafts are going on both my new sets:

Miura black limited edition blades - 3 - PW

Epon AF Tour PW, 9 & 8, AF 302 7 - 4.

can't wait!

UPDATE: Went to the club fitter to try the built clubs:

The Epon 302 - WOW, absolute like a hot knife through butter. No warm up, first hit out of the middle (ball marks to prove it!).

Miura's re-shafted with Modus 3 (soft stepped as well as the Modus with Epons) amazing too. 3 iron, really is like a knife!

Will publish proper write up after some "special bonding!!"

I love the modus 3. Used to change shafts 3x a month til I discovered the modus3.

They haven't come close to being replaced. You made a good discovery and the

Results prove it.

I thought everyone hated the Modus 3 - Gary isn't a big fan, everyone on Golfwrx hates them compared to the SPB's and KBS C-Tapers, etc...

I love my modus too but I find that if you try to swing too aggressively (go at it) it can go all over the place, maybe this is cause they play softer to flex.

Need to slow down with a smooth tempo to really enjoy this shaft IMO. Currently thinking if I should hard-step them?

If it works for you IF.

Even the best shafts in the world will have detractors, can't please everybody.

I know a lot of people that have chosen the modus over the c tapers etc.

Those who don't like em are most likely playing a flex don at their used too.

I'm using s no problems

Do you think Modus3 will work well as a wedge shaft?

My favorite shaft time and time again are Aerotechs...pure brilliance. The accuracy of an iron shaft with all the benefits of graphite. I've tried just about everything out there and each time find that nothing beats the Aerotechs

The modus 3s in stiff didn't work for me, I do play over length and swing down hard in my irons. SP orange in stiff works well and c-tapers in stiff soft stepped works great. Different strokes, for different folks.

I use a sp blue prototype 2s14x in my wedges, I like my wedges firmer

And real heavy. The modus 3 s could be too soft. They are 115grams in stiff

Ct em down for a wedg they will be sub 110. If thats ok for you go for it.

Personally I prefer heavier

I thought they are 120g in stiff.

they are labeled tour 120g

but raw weight of the s flex is around 115 the x is 120

now cut them down to playing length and they become the weight

of a ns1150 give or take a few

ive got he modus 3 in my PW as part of my proto set. they are alot more flexy than the prots but they get the ball in the air and fall s soflty, so yes ithink they are terrific for wedge shafts

Just out of interest , which club fitter did you use??

Precision Golf - they have been looking after me for 7 years now.

what was the ballflight like in the modus compared to the project x and the kbs? i'm tempted to switch to modus in my tourstage, which have 950 shafts and flight is just a tad high. figure a little lower may help?

Against PX (my PX are the originals before they were bought out so better than what's on offer now) and KBS they were very close - PX slightly lower, KBS were a bit lower. My club fitter said the flight I got on Modus 3's were perfect and each shot same flight/ball spin.

They are a shaft I have been after for a while, by that I mean, I play better more consistently when I feel I slow down (I am actually not, just better tempo) and this shaft just lets me swing within myself and funnily enough I get better results! Both my brother and the clubfitter said that when I hit the KBS, PX and the Modus in an X it looked like I was trying to hard and it was not as smooth etc. Also, if I did swing harder on the S, the shots were blocked right, which is something I can easily rectify.

The S just felt right and obviously the swing and results followed.

Happy days.

Did you stay with the same flex in your wedges as your irons, or did you go up one?

If I have S in my irons, do you think the X in the wedges would be a good idea?

Just had the Shimada 110 and 120 shafts put in my wedges (yet to be tried out), but if these don't work out, I was thinking about the Modus 3's.

I'd be interested in how the transition from Modus3 S in irons and Shimada 120 wedge works out for you as I am converting from 1150S to Modus3 S in the irons and Shimada 120 into wedges when I get them. I tried the WV125 but hard to get consistency on partial shots...

For sure I will. Won't be until Jan as I am here in Blighty for Christmas. Let me know how you get on too.

cheers
