pickle
Just got a 17* first gen spoon in and want to experiment with it to see if anything can be done to muffle the sound at impact. I've got to add a relatively substantial amount of something (rat glue or ?) to get it to 216g headweight to play D3.5 and wondered if anyone has any tricks they've used in the past. Many thanks and Merry Christmas to all!! Pickle
idrive
This probably won't help you but.... I just turn my hearing aids down. I hate adding anything to a head besides lead tape. The sound will be muted...... as the performance dwarfs it.
FatMan
C, I've read about people who have used cotton balls, yarn or fiberfill to muffle the sound of drivers. Not sure tho what the combination together with hot melt/rat glue would do to it. What's the current head weight?
pickle
Right now it stands at 206g and I'd like it around 216-217g. My first thought was the fiberfill route but hadn't ever tried it and was concerned about restoring it to its original state if it didn't work. Additional rat glue will probably help a little. I've got a 15* that's pretty noisy although I love the performance of it, just want to quiet it down a touch.....
swisstrader
I would personally leave it alone...easier to get used to the sound, which from my view is not anything so terrible, vs trying to add any material to the head
pickle
Yes performance is great but I've got to add weight to get it to the right swingweight so thought I'd try to help with the sound. 10g's of lead tape is a bunch, easier to do something inside and not so unsightly..... Thanks for the comments, I'm in the mood to experiment, who know whats going to happen in the workshop! Merry Christmas guys
Spoon
i think the sound is a result of that particular design, 2nd generation fixed that. leave it alone or change the club.
+TourSpecGolfer
Second Gen does sound better but the 1st wasn't that bad i think. The best options are to foam the head for dead mute or use cotton to soften it.
pickle
Thanks to all for the help, I think I may try the cotton route? How easy is it to remove if I don't like it? C-
gocchin
Its easier to put in, much more difficult to pull out. I don't think I know anyone who foamed or muted the sound of the 1st gen granted many did not like it, most got used to it. I thought it was way to weird at the beginning but as the ball traveled further and further down the fairway I started liking it. And your playing partners always know when you've hit the spoon.
