Posted January 12, 201213 yr Evening everyone! Ok so I'm out playing today( been back to back golf over the past 2 days!)and for one reason or another I decided to use the AF202 of the Tee. Now after I stopped trying to kill the ball I found out that the over all distance wasn't far off the AF102. But what I wanted to know is that if I trimmed 3/4 or 1 inch from the 3 wood (butt end) what would that equate to in lost yards? The reason I asked was I found I got better result gripping down the shaft!!( didn't like the Feel) My playing partner( excellent Golfer) thought I'd loose lots of Distance? So is there a rule of Thumb? 1/2 =10 yards? When I got home, I looked for my old TM 3 wood, which I hit really well... And I was Gob smacked to see that it's almost 2" shorter!!(1" 5/8ths).... D
January 12, 201213 yr When I choke down on my woods and longer irons, I don't lose that much distance at all, as long as I put a nice full swing on it. When I grip down the shaft, I tend to hit my shots more purely on the screws, which creates a bit more spin, leaving my shots to hang in the air and carry a further, which equates to almost same distance. Anthony Kim chokes down on every shot, and he's a pretty long hitter for an skinny golfer that's not that tall.
January 12, 201213 yr You're making better contact with the shorter shaft length. If its working for you then go with it. Longer lengths will give you better distance only if you are able to make a center strike consistently with it.
January 13, 201213 yr It really depends on the spec of the shaft, most manufactures have trimming guides.
