Posted March 27, 201212 yr looking for a change in shafts for my epon 502's at present there is a set of matrix program 95 reg in them but im not having much joy got fitted for a new set of irons and came away with True Temper Dynalite Gold XP in regular anyone got anythoughts for replacments? thanks Edited March 27, 201212 yr by aberdeenlad
March 27, 201212 yr Might help to expand on your existing swing characteristics, what it is that you don't like about the existing shafts and/or what you'd like different in the next set? Hmm... maybe approximate budget for replacement shafts as well?
March 27, 201212 yr Author i was fitted at the titleist national fitting centre in Scotland for the True temper shafts the matrix shafts are far too inconsistant and tend to fly high right Im looking for a lower flight As far as budget , youll know how much i payed for the epon / matrix set up so im willing to pay what it needs to get it right ( well almost anything !!)
March 27, 201212 yr Author I have tried the KBS T90 got on ok. think the Ctapers might be too stiff for me Cant find the aerotech shafts, have you any more info?
March 27, 201212 yr aerotechgolfshafts.com Kuchar plays them in his irons. Quite a few pros playing them.
March 28, 201212 yr tt dynalite gold xp is a high launching shaft especially in r flex. a set of mizunos i bought while back came with those stock r300. high and soft. maybe they can lower it for you somewhat comparing to 95 programs since they weight a wee bit more. havent tried 95s but have 130s and combined with a blade head and stronger flex they produce med flat traj, extremely stable, dispersion is great. your other problem in terms of lowering it is your cb heads, they are designed to launch higher and if you combine them with any high launching shaft especially in softer flex it doesnt make much sense if you are looking for lower traj. that said if you are not looking to lower it radically then dynalite or similar might work which i'm guessing what your fitting has shown. if thats the case why dont you go with that match ? if you want graphite it might still work for you if you go with heavier weight and stronger flex than your current 95s tho it might be rather expensive experiment to find a match but 130s in stronger flex should certainly be one such option.
March 28, 201212 yr I have tried the KBS T90 got on ok. think the Ctapers might be too stiff for me Cant find the aerotech shafts, have you any more info? c tapers play stiffer to flex. im a legitimate S flex but only an r+ on the c tapers. they are good shafts but heavy, might be a big jump coming from the matrix. how about ns1150? they are 110 grams in the R flex and are lower launching than all other ns models . nice punchy feel too!
March 28, 201212 yr Author ive been reading about the taper c and it would appear that even in a reg shaft it might be still too stiff sad to say but the epons are catching dust in my garage so need to either do something with them or cut my losses and sell on !
March 28, 201212 yr anyone tried the nippon modus 3 ? yup im gaming the S. for me they are the holy grail at least to me!
March 28, 201212 yr Author is that the modus 3 that im reading about on the nippon site? ive had a set of nippons previously think it might have been 950 what sort of flight and distance you gettin with them?
March 28, 201212 yr Ask DaleUK about the modus. He has them fired in onoff forged heads. I'm pretty sure he's living them.
March 28, 201212 yr Ask DaleUK about the modus. He has them fired in onoff forged heads. I'm pretty sure he's living them. Yep the Modus3's are the shaft of all shafts!! I've had over the past 18 months or so enough sets of clubs/shafts etcetc than I care to remember, and the Modus3's are quite simply the Best.... Flight is Strong, I'd say medium in height, but the feel from these... Im going to compare these against a set of heads with Project x Pxi's, but they will have to be very special to upset the current setup!!
March 28, 201212 yr Author ive managed to track down a supplier in scotland , same guy who i bought the epons from !!! I fitted the matrix shafts without trying them , bit of a school boy error now but seemed like a good idea at the time , expensive one though ! Certainally look the part haha Whats the flex like? the true temper shafts i got fitted for are regular thanks for the help guys
March 29, 201212 yr Hahahha....welcoem to the world of shaf 'hoo...' It all depends what you want to achieve? I went from NS850/ 950/1050/ KBS Tour/ DGS300 to Modus3. IMO NS850/ 950/1050/ KBS Tour flight are too high but feel is good. DGS300 flight is lower but feels harsh. Modus3 is a good in between - mid lauch (higher than DGS300 but lower than the rest) but great feel. I shaft them in my Yururi Raw flatback. I also have another set of Epons using C-Taper and IMO C-Taper flights slightly lower than Modus 3 (for me) but prefer the feel of Modus 3. However, Modus3 shaft do play softer to flex....
March 29, 201212 yr Author modus is the route im thinking about going down when you say softer flex ........ you meaning stiff is like regular/firm ? reading on here it looks like the taper c might be too stiff for my swing?
March 29, 201212 yr You can go R for C-Taper or softstep them....more importantly is what you like to see in a shaft??
March 29, 201212 yr modus is the route im thinking about going down when you say softer flex ........ you meaning stiff is like regular/firm ? reading on here it looks like the taper c might be too stiff for my swing? Yes - Modus3 seem to play softerto flex. Example I play a stiff in C-Taper (which feels right) but stiff in Modus3 seem a little softer in flex for me. Now thinking of hard stepping em. March 29, 201212 yr Author I need to try and get a hit of both flex's me thinks ? The problem is we have very few guys up my way who can A supply the shaft B have demo clubs ( cost etc) C have the knowledge to help !!!!
March 29, 201212 yr Author True Temper Dynalite Gold XP in regular mid to low flight , lots of wind in the north east of scotland !!!
