EPONfreak
I was talking to my club guy about iron shafts and he said that with the modus3, the way they are designed that (assuming appropriate flex for the user) a stock 75-80% swing produces a nice flighted trajectory with spin and a full clip produces a lower trajectory with lower spin, the opposite of what would normally be the case. anyone got any feedback on this? gbs
I was using the Modus 3 but i currently in love with the PXi i bought 2 sets of the irons replaced my Modus 3 in my Epon 502 and also installed them on my BBDs Tour VS. PXi on the Tour VS is the softest feeling combo ever. Trust me i have tried heaps.

Actually he has it the other way around. The slower you swing the less spin and lower trajectory you get, Faster swing will impart more spin and a higher trajectory due to the stiffer than normal tip. Spoon
He recons it doesn't play like that though? The shaft is tip stiff and butt soft. The harder you swing the stiff tip will Impart more spin and result in a higher flight, inversely softer hit will be less Spin , you getbthe picture. When I want a lower flighted shot or a knock down I will use a longer club , choke down and swing slower. Hope other modus users can chime in. pk923
In Tom Wishon's book "The new search for the perfect golf club" he said this: "Stiffening up the tip half of the shaft would reduce its amount of forward bending before impact and from that, keep the ball flight a little lower." swing981
how do sp orange differ from blues
robbie
Actually thats a bit counterintuitive BUT i have been experiencing this with the modus 120.....smooth easy swings give me good trajectory and when i swing full out, the ball goes lower ???? this has eliminated my ability to hit my knockdown !!! But i love the flight of these shafts and the way they perform. They are great even in windy conditions which is rare for smooth/soft shafts
Spoon
how do sp orange differ from blues Orange is higher launch mid kick while blue is lower launch High/butt kick. Both are very smooth but the blues will be a bit More demanding,
supo
in my book, the harder i swing at these things the higher ,more spin i get with the ball. esp the 7 iron . i find if i clobber the ball like on 17 . a par 3, 183 yard shot . . ill use a 6 i to try and cut it , ( it has a very thin elongated green so height is essential, or u roll off the back easily. ) and . i try and get into the shot very very hard. the ball flies very high , and with almost no roll out, BUT it almost alway s gets left to right check down the slope but not forwards. which is perfect. if i play smoother softer shot with a 5 then it runs like a cheetah and im in all sorts dead over th back in jungle. and if i use the 7 draw to get front edge i find its normally too short too much spin the ball just holds up too much. and im bunker bound. hitting these shaftts into apr 3 s is great to see what the club does, the harder i hit them the more spin it gets the softer it lands , the higher it goes. the less disatnce i get. if that makes sense. great shafts, i love them...! So this must mean that assuming u swing 100% for all different iron shaft (modus3, sp blue, tt Monaco, shimada tour, pxi), the modus 3 have highest launch. supo
yea i think so. the SP blue is the lowest. the shimada is just dead middle. doesnt seem to do anything special. just does what it does perfectly. the modus the highest. dpends on what u want.. but all 3 ofthese are super shafts

chiromikey
no doubt they perform i just dont like the feel. feel for me is 50% of the experience. that's the thing, i totally agree! i'm more of a feel player than anything else. i just gave up wood woods this year because technology had finally made it worth giving up that feel (imho). on pure shots i feel completely rewarded with these shafts. i agree that the c-tapers may not give the same feel that most people interperet as "soft" or "smooth" but that "pure" feeling is definitely there! one thing for sure though, they'll let you know if you didn't find the center of the clubface...but that sure is incentive to not miss again! btw, i went down a half flex (and could possibly even have soft stepped after that) and i think that's part of the reason i get the feel i need from them. Spoon
yeah the c tapers play stiff to flex. im prob be comfy playng a r+ at most
mygreenaliem
I went from Modus 3 S to Crazy target tour; more control, dispersion, distance and can feel the shaft (in terms of weight) which has helped my swing no end.
