Grip impacting club performance

So I purchased this set of RomaRo Pro Forged blades at the beginning of this season and had them built with Iomic OS grips. I have been using Lamkin OS and built up midsize grips as well as GripMaster Leather OS grips with extra wraps and they all fit my hands well. So I assumed that the Iomics would be the same.

Couldn't be more wrong. They are just plain big. The grip problem actually caused me to not enjoy the clubs as much and purchased a set of Personals to continue my blade testing. Was at my club fitter today going through the process of fitting the Personals with some UST IS980 shafts and while I was doing that had the RomaRo's re-gripped with some Lamkin Midsize wraps. What a world of difference. Those RomaRos are going to give the Personal a run for their money on the softness scale.

I might even be adventurous and do a similar Uberschlocken blades review to what Supo has done... Have 2 of the 3 he is playing just different shafts...

Anyway back to the grip thing, I knew having a too small grip was bad, but never could have imagined too big can have a similarly big impact on the feel of a club...

Do you find that you hit more shots left or right with a thinner gripper, and what happens when the grip is too thick?

I'm now playing Iomics with 1 wrap and I think they feel a little thin compared to GP tour velvet with 1 wrap.

Direction was ok maybe a little more right. But the whole feel of the club was wrong, it felt sloppy heavy and my distances were short 1 club.

Just for perspective I play with a 43.5 gram butt weight, clubs at d4 prior to butt weighting. Same setup in TS905/Crazy CBI and the Personals with the Modus 3, so when I say sloppy heavy it was a shocker to me.

Just couldn't get my hands around the grip so the release was off... Very enlightening experience....

Be aware I think the butt diameter on the IS shafts is thicker than normal.

Thanks for the heads up, but is not an issue. Spent the day using a midsize Lamkin wrap with one extra wrap to fit the shaft length, hard stepping, tip trimming, swing and butt weighting. Then my builder measured the outside diameter on the Lamkins in a few spots and when building will use the midsize Iomics I had assuming the outside diameters are in check. If not will go back to the Lamkins... These Personals will be very personally tuned for once completed...

Now I just need to figure out what to do with a 3-PW set of stiff Modus 3's hard stepped playing a 38.5 5 iron with 43.5 gram butt weights under the grips...
