hokay..,

well, firtsly the matt coloUr is grat to look at. normally i like shinier sheens but on this itreally suits. no coloUr fill in the egg printing, thats neither here nor there, i can always paint a club...!

the shape looks identical to the version 2(v2) , its not bigger nor smaller form what i can tell. . i prefer the red /black combo writing to the the yellow print tho.

again either here nor there.

the swing weight is definatly noticeably heavier .

i took about 40 odd swings with this baby yetserday and most assuradly its heavier. impact is def better , i found i didnt have to try and monster the ball to bec it was so light, nor immediatly think i need to put a really heavy shaft in it ,

the face isnt really what id call deep tho.......... its still pretty slimline and sleek, BUT its noceiceably higher than the older versions. kinda not dissimilar to the royal collection v face, that kinda sleekness, but enough (just) to take it out of the old versions look and the ryoma style, it looks much higher than that.

the toe lie............... heres hte thing, i just cudnt get my head around o nthe older ones the toe kissing hte sky.

well...........,

its STILL there. but i didnt notice it at all after just a few shots, the V2 i noticed it on every shot. its not a factor on the original one at all.

the V3 is prety darn spot on , although stil maybe just stil la little bit thigh for the pursits.

it shudnt worry guys that dont like toe up and it its good enough for me thats for sure.

the impact is def thicker , thudier more solid, its kinda lost its "ting" impact that i associate with eggs.

remembering i was hitting shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiity range balls but, the extra thump is noticeable, i think id put that down to the thickness of the new head.

i liked it a lot , nothing like the original version,

moveability..

again not great, the lengthnad breadth of these heads pretty much stop someone form shaping shots, especially draws.

where the heel gets stuck i nthe grass and u top the ball, that was one of my biggest gripes about the old club. no ability to shape at will.

the results were far too often , quite catastophic.

the newer one tho i cud just about hit some draws , just about. but i still got down on it and topped a cpl ,

BUT THET DIDNT POP UP AND GOI 10 MILES IN THE AIR.. very niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice.!

its just not made for shaping. its made for point shoot. and with small room for movement, more than the first two ill say that.

the shaft...,

bb7x

good choice .

iu really like it, in a fairway, it doesnt feel over great nor bad , its def NOT too strong and it hits a nice mid-high / high ball,. but with what i call a strong high flight , GD seems to have this characteristic.

the ball gets up fast but then arcs and flies hard and starightens its actually high for a 14.5* but high fast then straight and piercing. thats a good flight for fairway i think. the stinger does exactly the same. . with a juuuuuuuust a bit more feel to it..(!)

cudnt get over all distance bec i was hitting he net about 200 yards out flat. but i will say with EXTREME confidence.., im pretty darn sure peolpe wont be complaining about distance.

from a tee................. yes a tee.

the30 mm tee at the range i was cloberign the daylights out of it for fun to see if i cud.

yes, i could.

and it with a draw. no sole to get in the way.

THAT problem i think well all find ..

is SOLVED...

game time soon. it will take a monster of a club to dislodge the yamaha/stinger combos

but this after just one range session has all the atributes.

easy to hit, long, high and can look at par 5s with a twinkle in the eye again.

might end up keeping htis thing for a wee bit.......................,

do you think a good club builder would/could bend it a couple of degrees flatter?

Nice review Stew.... seem it's time I put my spoon onto BST and get one of this !! How does this compare to Ryoma F3 I wonder?? Maybe T can chip in here?

i dunno about that i took some in and they woulkdnt do it . i think................ ur rigth on this one i purposely ahd a good look at the set up for you in mind. ithink ull like it a lot more.

is it forgiving enough to be played with confidence from the fairway?

how would you rate vs the inpresx 14* or even say the older v1/v2 eggs?

completely ok off the deck i hit 30+ off the deckers at least , porb more.

i was gettign a beautiful striaght to fade shot that im compleltely in control of.

most of the time.

i troed greipping down and belting the ball draw but came assunder.

back to normal shot and it was perfect.

no probs off the deck

C, if you can play the Yamaha V off the deck, you will have no problems with the egg HD.

It is as easy to play off the deck as the first two versions of the egg and for many players it will be even easier.

Its not like it got a lot deeper, just enough.

And the extra weight helps with better impact. Especially for stronger players.

They are a bit different but with similar focus which is distance. The Ryoma is very big and much more geared towards the average golfer and slower swinger. Though faster swingers and better players can of course have success with it.

The egg HD is aimed at the better player and faster swinger and adds stability to the mix. Distance is great to as they've managed to crank the COR up there right with the Ryoma.

The advantage the Ryoma has is its weighting and fact it can be made with any shaft.

The Spoon HD is probably better at hitting bullets and more penetrating type shots.

  • 4 weeks later...

few more games with this under my belt now .

consistantly getting this out of the screws with great distance both from the deck and off a , if/when required.

i find i can get this out a bit further than my yamaha and crazy heads ,but not with the same moveability.

its still pretty much a point /shoot straight weapon. and im getting very accurate with it.

on long courses with hefty par 5s this gets the nod every time. however where the ground precludes us mere mortals from getting on in 2 bec of dangerous liasons like lakes and aliens.., just before the green about 260 yards out..

then theres no point. having it. bec its still not quite as versatile as the more traditional heads.

for out and out length tho... sorry but its the winner.

i swapped this out for the kasco fairway driver , and 5 wood last weekend bec the FD is a lot more manouverable off the tee box. and the 5 wood put me in front of the crocodile and carp coi pit. plus the FD is a wee bit longer.

the kasco is a much better alterante driving weapon than the spoon. and its prob goes 15 + yards further and i can shape it at will.

the egg from a fairway tho is miles better.

loving this club, its one of my few that i really have no interest in changing out the shaft, it sutis it perfecetly well

although................ i cud be temepted to put a crazy sigma into it. later in life. or in 2nd one

this is much better suited to my style of swing than the previous models.

its not an out and out brute force stick either it has small sublteties but as in in the eggs genes...,

it is a road runner.

I should have one coming shortly. If it can beat my previous benchmarks ADAMS tour issue 16 degree 50 50 or an RBZ tour . 14.5 I will be happy.
