Hi Cor Drivers Comparison - who's the distance king?

Hi all,

With more and more brands today I see going Hi Cor (I've never hit one but hopefully one day to try) who is the furthest in distance as well as feel and forgiveness?

- Ryoma ST Hi Cor

- Kamui Works Ray Hi Cor

- Romaro Ray 460HX

- Geotech Prototype RF700 Alpha-Spec

- Others???

Also it seems only Ryoma have such strict restriction on swing speed, guaranteed terms, etc where the other Hi Cor brands don't but they all seem to carry the same COR 0.88? Why is that?

Cheers, Ed

think i read taylor made is the only one who ha technology to push fway woods to higher core as does adams. im guessing the smaller head has something to do with that. From what i heard the Ryoma is the distance king

they're not the only ones...but with their speed slot designs they're the only ones that can do it with a small head and steel faces.

as for the original topic, it sure would be fun to see a comparison!

The speed slot design was first done by Nike....and then further improved by Adam and of course now with TM marketing...... it seem to give you that add 17 yards more lol

From what I tried, Ryoma felt pretty darn good! You can really feel the rebound effect at impact. As for other drivers, the Geotech RF700 is one of the only non conforming drivers that I found workable. I can turn the ball in both directions with the RF 700, where most non conforming drivers will just jump straight off the face and take off.

Distance wise, is the Ryoma further and Geotech more workable?

i have the kamui works ray n/c (for sale in bst) and i've found it to be quite workable.

What's the feedback on distance wise? does it really makes such a difference for a Hi Cor?

I have tested every single one you listed plus other hi cor's like the Quelot and EHR.

None can match the Ryoma in distance or forgiveness.

The Ryoma is not only the longest but as forgiving if not the most forgiving of any driver which is why it is the distance king.

Even if I miss a shot badly off the center, even off the heel, the toe or anywhere around the outer areas of the face it still goes reasonably well and straight.

This is thanks to the monocoque body and the way it peforrms with the head.

I am testing a new Hi Cor head right now, the new Kamui Pro TP-07s Aero.

A lot comes down to shaft but with all things being equal, the Ryoma is the king.

Many users have given me feedback and noted they gained up to 20y and these are for slower swingers too.

The thing about the ST though is it launches higher than the normal Ryomas, I actually stepped down a loft to 9.5*.

Great feedback as usual T. Tell us more about the new Kamui Pro TP-07 when you get the chance. Sure sound interesting..... I would really love to hit one of em Hi Cor one of these days and see if there is really such thing as 20 yards increase...... Yummy would make em long par 4 a breeze with a short iron in :-)

My distance average is 230 ish and started hitting 240 and over with the ST. The other day I hit one over 275. It was the first tee and first swing of the day and i did not even swing hard... I was shocked as were all my playing partners as I had never driven it this far on this hole. According to gps I carried 240 and rolled another 35 yards. Of course I could not replicate that distance again for the rest of the day but I know its in there somewhere. (^_^)

Is the Kamui Pro TP-07 always Hi cor, or is that the Aero model? Can you choose between conforming and non-conforming?

yes, it does make a difference. the kamui is definitely the longest and best feeling jdm driver i've owned but i think the bigger distance gains will be had by the slower swingers (under 105mph).

The only non-con driver I have is Kamui Ray 8 degree. It's by far the longest of all the jdm drivers I've got (including the Ryoma v-spec). My average carry distance is around 310yrds and max distance I ever got from this driver is 388 yards (measured from GPS and Bushnell rangefinder. It's shafted with Diamana X. Wanted to try Ryoma ST but it doesn't come in low loft and open face angle.

Doubtful the Ryoma ST would withstand to your swing speed lol. You will most probably crack the head on your first swing.

I've got/hit one...

Very nice club for the Money!

Now as for Distance, I let a friend of mine use it in a Doubles Match( friendly) and the first comment he had after his Tee shot was....

Is that thing Legal?

Really, you can tell its hot... Very hot!

We had it in a Low launch shaft which possibly made it play shorter than possible??

Again for the money it's good BUT non conforming !!

I think Grotech is one of the cheapest (if not the cheapest) Hi Cor driver out there........ however what I find odd is I would expect them to max out the head volume to make it more forgiving since it's Hi Cor anyway??

The HiCor drivers definitely make a huge difference with higher swing speeds. It really is a giant boost to distance. I know the only problem is that Hi Cor drivers are made mostly to benefit the average to slower swing speed players... Kamui Ray is a good driver for the high swing speed player who whats to blow away their playing partners! ;) Its very workable for such a low spin head too.
