G-man
Hi all, This is my first post here so go easy on me boys.... i couldnt find the welcome thread so here goes. Im not the worlds best golfer but would call myself an gear enthusiast and definitely a ho. Nothing gives me more pleasure than having that new bit of kit arrive then feeling the ball fly off the middle of it with that perfect launch and impact feel. Like i said im a bit of a hack playing off 12 and hardly ever get to get out for more than 9 holes very often (young Kids). Ive been hoing around with US gear and different shafts for a while and have had the pleasure of hitting some JDM stuff lately and realised ive been wasting time with that rubbish. Its time to get some real gear and offload my office full of substandard US offerings. Now... the reason for my post... i have the opportunity to buy locally some epon af502's with aerotech i125 stiffs for within my budget. I was hoping to get some oppinions on this combo from the experts...thats why Im here. But dont worry once im here I'll be contributing regularly. I currently game either r9 B stamps with KBS stiff (which i hit quite high) or TM MC's with s300's...again a highish ballflight but not as high as the kb's. I hit my 7 iron about 165 yards and driver ss about 105-110mph. My other iron sets are bridgey j36 combos with kbs stiffs, and some Mizzy mp60's with px 5.0's which are a bit soft for me. My plans to get one set that i love and game it until i get the itch again (and get rid of the rest to stop swapping aLL THE TIME) Can anyone chime in and tell me if this is the set for me??????? I have no way of trialling it as they arent THAT local. Any comments will be appreciated.
Ian-500
Hi G-man. Welcome to this crazy forum (no pun intended). Have a look at this little review of the 502's and 302's: http://forum.tourspecgolf.com/topic/33251-epon-502-vs-epon-302/ Personally, even though i haven't gamed either head, I prefer a smaller head so I wouldn't buy those 502's. However, I've heard good things about the aerotechs and would like to give them a whirl one day, sooooooo I'd be torn. Hahaha no help whatsoever! If there's any doubts in your mind then don't buy, but, if the price is a steal then even if you don't like them i'm sure you'll be able to get your money back if you sold them here. EdGolf
Firstly WELCOME..... As for AF502, IME its quite a high launch irons as balls seem hot off its face but with a very soft feel. With this head, I shaft mine with C Taper to bring the ball flight down. Have not tried Aerotech i125 but I've tried i95 and i110 and both Aerotech shaft are very stable and high launch. I125 are usually use in wedges from what I gather so I presume they should play similar to the other series but with a heavier weight. MoreBeerBetterGolf
I am not a huge fan of the Aerotechs, especially at that weight, but they are still a good shaft and command a good resale price if you didn't like them. If the price is fair, I would jump on it, and if you don't care for the shafts, you likely could sell them and buy whatever you like (within reason) for little additional cost. chiromikey
i have the aerotech i125's in my epon af-tours and they're a pretty good set. i actually didn't expect to like these shafts as much as i do and think they're as good as any steel shaft for most players. my swing speed and distances are almost spot on with yours so i wouldn't worry about the weight or flex but i would be concerned with the finished length those clubs are built to. the aerotechs seem to go harsh if played at the shorter japanese standard so i'd highly recommend them be built at least to 1/4" over the american standard (38" 5iron). if you can get used to that length the clubs will reward you beyond your expectations. G-man
Thanks heaps for your responses so far... Given that i hit my other sets quite high, my concern is that i might hit moon balls with this combo.... but the feel and forgiveness is the selling point for me... as ive realised im not really that good. On my good days i strike it really well and could play anything but theres too many bad days thrown in..... any more thoughts would be really welcome
vincent
you cant go wrong with epon 502 mate. Its much more forgiving and a club longer.
chiromikey
the aerotechs are mid trajectory and there's no reason you couldn't adjust the lofts on the 502's to bring the flight down if needed.
swisstrader
NO WAY you will balloon the ball with that setup and if anyone tells you otherwise, they don't have a clue. That setup is almost my exact setup...502's with aerotech 95's and in my view, it's as good as it gets. My iron play became the strongest part of my game and in this case it was truly the arrow not the Indian. Not the longest, just the most deadly accurate. If you're into accuracy with your irons, they will serve you well.
