kaaayelll
Just dipped my toe into JDM with the purchase of a used set of Yonex blades. Now I'm looking at drivers before moving on to wedges. I'm currently playing a Titelist 975 JVS, but for some reason have been having trouble feeling good at setup. I briefly tried a Ezone 450 the other day and liked the setup quite a bit. Having said that, even my Titleist looked huge when I first got it, so I bias toward the small side. I was thinking of taking a flier on the 380, but I've seen some less-than-stellar comments. Any other thoughts on what I should look at? My swing speed is in the 100-105 range. Thanks a lot. chiromikey
it won't have the best feel out of jdm drivers but it delivers the best performance and might have the profile you're looking for. the jbeam or crazy original 435! MoreBeerBetterGolf
Can you give us some more information regarding your swing type, typical miss, tendencies, etc? Some JDM heads tend to be anti-left, some are anti-right to some extent. The Kamui KPX is about as anti left as you can get while the Ryoma heads with their special high gravity angle design tend to fight the right side somewhat. Chiromikey made a couple of excellent suggestions for hot, long heads as well. The more info you can give us the better.
kaaayelll
Thanks for the help. I have two misses. One is when I get lazy and come-off-the ball, resulting in a high fade. The other is when I'm swinging better, but overcook it into a low pull. The set up with the Titleist (8.5*) seems to be putting the high fade in my head at address...feels like I have to be conscious to close it down. I think that's what I liked about the Ezone 450; it just looked easy to square from address. When I'm hitting the Titleist well, I hit a mid- to high-trajectory ball. chiromikey
you may find that the proper shaft may be what you're looking for. in one driver i have a royal deco and you simply can't hit it left. in another i have an ly-02 and plays the perfect draw. nobmontana
Wow! a 975 user. a legendary driver! My oldest driver is a 983K .... Still take it out sometimes . Love the feel and sound. As for JDM drivers, I highly recommend the Epon AF101 or AF102 which are both 460cc but they hide the size well. had/have them both and still feel these are the best of the best in my personal opinion. Then there is the new AF103 which is getting some good reviews here. But if you absolutely want smaller, Epon Zero is definitely a good option. There is also a Limited edition Tourstage P02-6 365cc from a couple years ago which I loved. There are so many good selections with JDM drivers, the options are endless. : ) Good luck and enjoy your search!
xerobound
I like the jBeam 425 tour or jBeam/Crazy 435. Very low spin and penetrating flight. Should work good with your swing speed.
swisstrader
Why are you playing an 8.5 driver if you're having problems with accuracy? Get yourself a nice forgiving JDM head with AT LEAST 10 degrees of loft. You'll be hitting more fairways than you could ever imagine. MoreBeerBetterGolf
Why are you playing an 8.5 driver if you're having problems with accuracy? Get yourself a nice forgiving JDM head with AT LEAST 10 degrees of loft. You'll be hitting more fairways than you could ever imagine. I'm with Swiss here. JDM lofts are more true so you can go to a higher loft without losing distance and since they seem to also be lower spinning you will get more roll out. I'm a recent JDM driver convert and while I play a 9.5* head with a 112 swing speed, it carries as far but rolls much further than my R11s with a low launch low spin shaft did...with softer fairways than when I was using the TM. Played 9 tonight walking and hit every fairway. I'm still amazed where I find my ball relative to where I think it's going to be based off the carry and feel. I hate to even tell anyone how far a few of them went tonight with no wind assistance and 50* temps.
kaaayelll
Can't say I am having accuracy problems, but I feel like I can't get it set up easily (I'm very visual)...my misses are described above, but I'm not missing every drive. Having said that, I just caught the golf bug again (a round at Bethpage will do that to you) this year after more or less taking off the previous six years. The club gave me no trouble before I stopped playing. Only now that I'm back at it and fighting it a little have I started to rethink...hence the questions. I appreciate the thoughts. xerobound
Having the proper shaft is a very important part to driver performance. Crazy Longest Yard may be one to look into, for distance gain and straighter to slightly drawing flight. Ofcourse, we have many more options too! :)
kaaayelll
Think I'll start a thread with some shaft questions...
