wmclarenf1
Hi All, Am looking for suggestions for my new Black Widow Project. My White Mamba (JBeam 435 White with Crazy RD La Bomba) has touched down in Australia enroute to her new owner and I am now gaming my Ryoma D1 with Crazy TJ46 which is working very very well... ...but I miss the excitement and all out distance of the 435 and am toying with building a new driver if anything just for fun. The grip (black Iomic), ferrules (to match shaft color scheme) and shaft are decided and that will be the Quadra FEX 55 which I get along with well. So suggestions for a head with the following in mind is very welcome: 1. Must be a black head 2. 460 or slightly smaller will be ok but not overly small like a 400cc 3. Known for distance as I have my safety setup in the D1 already 4. Although going all out for distance, to not be super unforgiving or less forgiving than the 435. Something longer and as forgiving as the D1 will be perfection :-) 5. I'm not a super fast hitter and am more of a swinger so I think the super hard faces meant for faster more aggressive golfers like the K-PX or the new Jbeam 435R will be out of the equation. 6. Need to stay away from higher launching and spinning heads as given my less than perfect swing, I impart a lot of spin. The other extreme is not super low spin as well. As a guide, I struggled to get enough spin consistently with a V-Spec 9.5* paired with a Crazy LY-02. 7. Conforming heads only. 8. Not another Ryoma so V-Spec out of the running. Based on the above I have 2 possible shortlist from my reading which are: 1. Romaro 460HX Black 10* 2. Get back a 435 but this time a Black Crazy 435 in 10* as I found the 435 105 can be just a tad high for me. Your educated suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks in advance. EdGolf
Looks like another exciting project.... where in the world did you get those cool ferrules?? Also interested to see how Quadra FEX 55 fell?? I'm using Quadra FEX 65 and absolutely love em...
wmclarenf1
I got the ferrules from Grail Golf off ebay. The color is less red than it actually is. The FEX is a great shaft and I've come to find that I am most comfortabe with 50 plus gram shafts. While I am getting along just fine with the TJ46 in my D1, I find FEX shafts feel better than Crazy's in general for me and I have hit quite a few Crazys from the LY series to the RD to the 80Ts to the new Protos. EdGolf
Thanks - will search Grail Golf..... Oddly I also feel the same about Crazy an Quadra shaft comparison
swisstrader
Grail golf has THE most stunning ferrules
gian11
How about the Ryoma Maxima Type V? I heard that they are as long as the Ryoma ST but the thing is they are conforming. Its also super forgiving and easy to hit. If the rumour is true then i guess this is a hell of a driver!
EdGolf
Trying a head that's not available yet? So far Ryoma have not confirm if there are newer models coming (if any)

If yes, I don;t think its form Ryoma or at least not intentionally....
wmclarenf1
I am thinking now of throwing the Romaro 435LX into the fray. Anyone hit this and the JBeam/Crazy 435? How do these 2 compare in terms of forgiveness, trajectory, spin/roll, feel (which feels harder) and which is louder?
gian11
You know of someone who's tried this already? If yes, I don;t think its form Ryoma or at least not intentionally.... No unfortunately don't know someone who have actually used it. Whoever that is he must very lucky to be the first.

Assuming it is indeed an intended upcoming Ryoma model. It could go both ways I think as in the past, I have seen proto heads before they were officially launched. I wish I could have a hand on the prototype head which I have a strong feeling there is...
wmclarenf1
Kamui TP07S now being considered as well. Any other suggestions?
Spoon
Kamui TP07S now being considered as well. Any other suggestions? To make this clear or before someone else inquires, I also tried the kpx. I loved it and it looks super bad aZZ, just found the tpo7s more forgiving. But the kpx was my first choice originally. wmclarenf1
To make this clear or before someone else inquires, I also tried the kpx. I loved it and it looks super bad aZZ, just found the tpo7s more forgiving. But the kpx was my first choice originally. Yup. I saw and held (not hit unfortunately) KP-X in Bangkok Kamui shop and even they said suits harder, faster and more aggressive hitters which is why I ruled that out for me as I have a slower swing speed and am more of a swinger. But yes, bad ass and really deep face. Is the face of the TP07S as deep?

wmclarenf1
OK. 3 heads shortlisted for Black Widow. On the way in is a 460HX 9.5. Coming in as well will be a Kamui Pro TP07S with a loft close to 10*. And if these 2 fail, then the backup will be going back to the tried and tested 435 but this time in 10*. All heads will get a run with the FEX 55 as I am very very familiar with this shaft and this will a good test for me to see the trajectory and spin rates (not LM but actual on course run) as well as forgiveness on mis**ts which I am very capable of. There will also be a TJ46 and Proto shaft to try in the heads as well and that will tell me which shaft launches and spins more as well. It'll be also interesting to see how much longer if at all a non-conforming head is as well. Gonna be a fun month or 2 and I hope the rain doesn't put a damper on things as its monsoon rain season now here. Thanks all for the input. wmclarenf1
I hope so . THe ideal would be if I had another FEX 55SR so I could ht the 460HX and the TP07S side by side. The 435 I gamed long enough to know. Edited December 12, 2012 by wmclarenf1
Spoon
cant go wrong with both.
wmclarenf1
cant go wrong with both. I'm expecting the 460HX gold to be longer due to the non-conform. Haven't played a non-conform head before beiieve it or not
chiromikey
really looking forward to this shoot out! in my shoot out the 435 kept up with a non conforming head no problem so it will be fun to see if this new kamui can too.
