wmclarenf1
Other than black Iomic, would you consider another grip option? http://www.bwgrips.com Mark I seen and felt these at my friend's golf shop and was neutral to it. I am very comfortable with the Iomics as well.

wmclarenf1
Thanks for chiming in supo. If the romaro 460hx, doesn't work out, I'll just be getting back a 435 in 10* loft to complement my okamoto ryoma.

wmclarenf1
Pardon my ignorance but what is an Okamoto Ryoma? LOL... someone finally noticed.. The Ryoma D1 is my safety driver ... so I decided to name her after Japan's number 1 (I think) condom maker, Okamoto.... :-)
nudgeegolf
He he he you learn something every day! Okamoto Ryoma sounds much better than an Ansell Ryoma (brand of condoms here in oz) although there is another brand called Trojan - Trojan Ryoma does not sound too bad! Hi, Yup.. it wasn;t right for me and it's down under now :-) Once I get some airtime with the 460HX, I'll do a little writeup on these 2 against the D1 and 435. Mob
Ok, I'm waiting to hear how nothing could really keep up with the distance of the 435, despite it's dreadful sound and feel.
wmclarenf1
Let's just say at this point in the, I am really tempted to get back a 435 but in 10*. wmclarenf1
I believe I have found my Black Widow Project Head... The Romaro 460X Gold 9.5*! I got rained out on hole 14 today so not a full work out. I think I also went to too stiff a shaft in the TJ46 and I should have known as I play a 6.2 in my D1 and like that and I have the 7.2 in the 460HX! Dumb ass me! I'd bet if it had a 6.2 TJ46 in it, it'll work fantastic for me! BUT....but but but... I must say the 460 HX has enormous potential.. why? My 4 misses were straight right pushes. No slices but very consistent straight right pushes. And on 2 of the pure hits...I hit longer than my D1 and ex-435! This should not be happening as with a shaft too stiff, you get tighter dispersion and less distance. Could be the non-conform face but what the heck... my gut and hobbyist fitting experience tells me this has massive distance potential and the feel is great too. The face also fees much better feeling and sounding than the 435 and 435R and my D1. In fact, I would term it THE most EXPLOSIVE feeling face I have tried. I will be going to the fitters if he is open today (NY eve here) to put in my FEX 55 SR and if that doesnt work, then I'll get a the same flex TJ-46 in my D1 but I am definitely playing a 460HEX as my other driver. This is non-conform and I don;t play many medals or tournaments but when I do or when I am not swinging too well, that will be the time for my Ryoma Okamoto D1. Guys, if you are looking to have fun with another driver and have never tried the RomaRo 460 HX, please do so! Together H irons, I am now thinking RomaRo may have been one fot he better kept secrets.... till now! Will post back after I get the FEX 55 in and play a round this weekend! Black Widow project is near complete! Happy 2013 all! Edited December 31, 2012 by wmclarenf1
wmclarenf1
I forgot to add... Trajectory... for those interested in trying this... the 460HX Gold 9.5 launched like just slightly higher than the D1 10.5 and the same as the Crazy 435 10.5. wmclarenf1
This is old news but ... Decided to get back a 435 and got my JBeam 435 Black head in yesterday afternoon. Took it to my fitter at night. She's a 10* loft and head weight is 202 grams. Face seems square to my eye. Decided to put back the FEX 55SR I played in White Mamba 435 10.5 head. Playing it a tad shorter now at between 44.25 and 44.5 ionic sticky 2.3 grip on. SW D1.5. Took her to the range today. Funny the sound of this head is less tingy and high pitch compared to the previous head. After a few hits, I am SOOOOOOO glad I got another one. The 10* head flies noticeably lower than the 10.5. Again, same range, same shaft and same hacker. And boy the roll form this thing... So I need to appoint and christian this setup the Black Widow now. I am a happy camper. Problem is, I have a brand new TJ-46 I just got from T sitting in the spares bag... hmmmm... what to do? Well to answer that, first what happened to the Romaro 460HX Gold? As I will be playing comps this year, I had to go conforming so the 460HX Gold is in the US now but the 460HX Gold impressed so much with its hot face and feel, I decided to get back a 460HX Black conforming head in 10*. I will be putting the TJ-46 in her and hope that she presents me with a headache given I now have my Black Widow. Either one won't replace my Okamoto Ryoma D1 TJ-46 because she is just so reliable and ...safe. Oh and the TP-07S? Just not for a slower swing speed player like me and that is now in OZ with a lower handicap player :-) Got a few more toys coming in... wedges, putter, D1 F3 but in the mean time...My Black Widow! She sure ain't the newest out there but as far as I am concerned, she's still one of the greatest. All I can say of the 435 the second time around.. if you in the field for a long distance head and don;t know too much about anything else, its really hard to go wrong with the original 435! Mob
Amazing how that 435 keeps making a come back. My 435 will be competing for a spot in my bag this spring vs. the new Callaway Razr Xtreme with a Diamana X shaft. I will be interested to see which performs better. I hit the 435r in an indoor range and that together with what I read that it is for higher swing speed players, I don't think it's right for me. Face felt very hard like the kamuis. dodo
I agree it feels hard specially with range balls but the spin is so low I can play much softer balls then before. I always played low spinning balls to lower my spin of the driver and with the the softer balls (proV1) I can play now it feels very juicy from the 354R I can feel the compress on the face. The first review from luting_chen is right on the money. I only had to find the wright launch angle tee hight to get the best numbers. wmclarenf1
Still rotating my Black Widow with the Maxima WBQ. Still have the same TJ46 shaft in Black Widow as well but I started messing around with the weights. When I got her, the weight setting was 2 Heel 2 grams, Toe 2 grams and back 3 grams. My misses were consistently high push fades. I've since changed the weight setting to Heel 4 grams, Toe 1 gram and Back 3 Grams. Had one range session and 18 holes with her. The tendency to go right SEEMS (coud be a psychological thing) less, ball flight seems a tad lower and roll seems to have increased quite a bit. The 435 continues to be a great performer capable of long drives for your swing and speed. Yes it's not as forgiving as the Maxima but its fun to play and very satisfying when you put a great swing in her. The 435 has been around quite a while relatively speaking but good is good and she continues to perform and tweak the weights to fine tune and optimize the head for your swing.
