Posted December 23, 201212 yr I'm thinking of selling my Epon 302s and getting the 2013 (non Tour) Yamahas or Kyoei Zestaim's Fi-1/Fi-2 or Honma Pro's to replace them. Thoughts? I'm also thinking of picking up the Epon Personals. Are the Yamaha's pretty much a direct replacement for the 302's? Are the Personals really all the much better feeling than the 302s? How much more difficult are they to hit? I'm concerned considering this is going to cost a lot if I go ahead with it. If you can help me out that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys and Merry Christmas!
December 23, 201212 yr Get the personals it's easier to hit than traditional blades with forgiveness of cavity backs! Worth every penny!
December 23, 201212 yr Regardless of which you choose, I would hold on to the 302s. There could be the last of the non-reedition Epons :-) Merry Christmas!
December 23, 201212 yr I agree w WM...I own both the personals and 502's and while I'm really loving the Personals, I'd hate to sell the 502's which basically got my game to a whole different level. The Personals are truly a different set of irons that play like nothing you've ever played before.
December 23, 201212 yr As I already suggested in my email, Hold the AF302 and add the Personal.... moving from the AF302 to the non tour Yamaha is not necessarily an improvement of any sorts. Also the Fi1 and Fi2 are coming out as completely new models in the new year. The ones you see in our shop are discontinued.

Thanks guys and Merry Christmas! I had the same decision to make Did I buy the Epon 302 or the V Forged... Also Onoff's was on my list!! After many email to several different people I decided on the Yamahas The deciding factor was the Epon 302 are dated!! Now I'm not saying there rubbish , for from it but ... Nor am I saying the V Forged are the same type of club but on about 3 weeks the proof will be in the pudding as I'm hoping to be gaming them!! Merry Christmas to all
December 24, 201212 yr Author Glad you mentioned this. I'm thinking along the same lines as you. I figure Epon will release 303s this summer so I might as well sell my 302s now and get the personals and possibly Yamahas to replace them, even if they're not totally similar. I also have the Onoff Forged and they are great... the Yamahas are more of a players club than the Onoffs right?

Then I saw the VForged... Kinda had that moment when you know you gave to buy.. Just hope these work out!
December 24, 201212 yr I'd say get the Personals and wait for the new Kyoeis before you pull the trigger on other options. The Personals are blade design, but are actually very easy to play. You'd be surprised how much forgiveness it has.
December 24, 201212 yr i really want to see the new kyoei's. anyone got an idea when next year these will be released?
December 25, 201212 yr personals will laucnh HIGH they are extrememly forgiving blade type irons they will play similar to the 302s i think u can swap intop them with a minimal of fuss the yama tours are a good mix as wel. very forgiving blade, but not as much as the personals id think u would suit the perosnal more
December 25, 201212 yr Author Yep, passing on the Yamahas. Going to scoop up the Personals, sell the 302s and in the new year, contemplate the Kyoeis and 303s when and if they come out. Now for shafts. What to put in the personals!?!?!

December 26, 201212 yr Author I've never tried C-Tapers or Shimada Tours, any of the Project X stuff or SteelFibres... never tried any graphite iron shafts except the Matrix Program 130s which launch too high and feel kind of blah. I'm kind of scared to graphite again because of this. People say graphite is better feeling than steel but is that really true? Maybe graphite in irons mutes the feel a little... I have the Modus 3's in the Onoff Forged irons - they're very good, SP Blues in Miura MP-5003s - very good, Monacos in Mizuno MP-37s - very good. I want whatever shaft makes the Personals feel the best possible.
December 26, 201212 yr unless you play your irons 1/2" over standard length 38" 5iron, if you go c-tapers (or even steelfibers), i'd recommend going 1/2 flex softer than your typical choice...even if your fitter says otherwise based upon your ss.
December 26, 201212 yr Author Why is that? I play everything +1" and Tour or X-Flex. Sound good in the C-Tapers?
December 26, 201212 yr Why is that? I play everything +1" and Tour or X-Flex. Sound good in the C-Tapers? they play stiff to flex at standard length. at 1" over you should be pretty good...
