I am looking to buy a set of Epon Personals now, I guess a bit too late and the train has left the platform.

Anyway, came across a very well reputed UK seller (without naming but a very long-in-the-business JDM specialist... used to be epon official dealer and still official dealer for other key JDM brands including Miura).. very very well known) and saw they still have one set in stock.

Checked with Epon if it's safe to buy from them and here is the response from Epon's worldwide distributors... (seller name deleted to respect the privacy)....

Dir Sir,

Thank you for your question.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxx was once our retailer, but they had a problem of business manner and no longer an official retailer.

You may check EPON official website that xxxxxxxx does not exist anymore.

You may purchase from us directly but I am sorry Personal iron is already sold out due to limited production. I believe xxxxxxxxx does not have the stock and their Personal iron would be another fake.

We only have AF-Tour as blade, and let me know if you would like to have I will quote you the price.

Best Regards,

SOSAN Co., Ltd.

Isn't it too quick for FAKES to make the market for Personals?

And if this seller not an official dealer, does it mean a big no-no to buy, even though he is an official dealer for many other JDM brands including MIURA...

I don't know about fakes...

But in regards to you been late and the train as left the platform, id wait cos I've heard a whisper that the train might be back in a few Months .....;-)

All aboard the Personal Express!!

Next stop TSG.....

Of course they'll be back. I dunno, seems obvious to me. All that time, funds and energy designing a stunning model to end up by shelfing it? Makes no sense. By hey...who knows.

Ask for a serial number, a pic, if it comes in an epon box with epon docs and warrantee, cool. And if they're fakes, goodbye to their business. People generally don't take spending 2k on fakes very well.

While I understand the business side of it, as well as from the "i wish I had bought" perspective, from a consumer that caught the train's point of view buying something that is a limited edition then having the mfg make more is frustrating...

Oops, I saw the pics after writing my post.

Those things look real to me.

I totally agree

I totally agree

So do I. But all they have to do is make a small alteration to the current model and call it personal 2

comment_197814

So these are real deal.

And is the price ok given these are hard if not impossible to find.

Price is fine considering the import taxes are paid for.

I get the concept, but doesn't change the effect. Oddly the Yam Tours, which release on an annual basis I am okay with as a limited run. But I d think there is a subtle difference; the Yams are not marketed as a limited edition, just a restricted run; the Personals were marketed as a limited edition...

Ditto. If Epon makes or find more Personals, I won't be a happy camper. And I'll gladly let them know about it. Very poor practice.

comment_197819

Call me Crazy but I'm willing to bet you're not going to see another run of Personals.

Same exact model, no. But I'm ready to bet there will be a personal 2 or 1.1.

IF they do something similar it won't be in the next couple of months.

Maybe, couple of years, maybe.

It seems that Epon is playing this marketing game now.. i33, re-editions of irons, drivers, and now personals.. maybe the next batch will be RF black or whatever they call it. I ca appreciate your frustration but if I were at Epon with hard revenue KPIs, I'd do what they are doing because the market bites and is willing to pay. Only way to stop this is not to buy but there will always be buyers of different sorts and I shall leave it at that...

This is why I never buy the "limited edition" concept by any manufacturer as I've said in the past. Saying limited edition is basically marketing fluff to make you think you're special because you now own 1 of x set of clubs or putter or whatever.

Doesn't bother me one iota...I don't buy gear to collect it or to hope one day to make a profit...I own it to play it, so could care less if there are 10,000 sets made or 100.

Ordered. thanks everyone.

One more question as I cannot find the bounce specs for personals anywhere.

I am currently playing Miura babyblades which are 2 degrees stronger than epon personals... I do not want to adjust my distances as will be playing both interchanging.

Is it safe to bend epons 2 degrees stronger... I am a digger and play in soft conditions.

Everywhere i have read personals have a digger profile with blunt lead edge and normally epons have quite a bit of bounce so decreasing the bounce 2 degrees by bending the 2 degree stronger should be ok?

Anyone who bent their personal stronger?
