MoreBeerBetterGolf
I am probably in a minority of users here as far as my swing style, but I have come to notice a very common theme amongst shots taken with my Crazy shafted clubs. I admittedly have a very very aggressive transition and release. So much so that on 9.5 degree drivers and normal stiff shafts I can have average dynamic loft numbers of around 20* on Trackman. So those of you with more controlled and normal swings, this most likely doesn't apply to you. On every single Crazy shafted club I own, at the top of my swing, at the beginning of my transition, and at my release, there is a cracking sound that used to make me think my shaft broke. Every single Crazy shaft I have owned has done this. Ironically, the louder the crack sound released, the more intense, long, and low spin my shot was. I have actually become accustomed to knowing that the louder the "Crazy Crack" is, the better the shot will likely be. Never heard anyone discuss this before, so maybe I am the only one? Absolutely LOVE these shafts. Wish I had the cheddar to put them in everything I own, including the steering mechanisms of my vehicles. MoreBeerBetterGolf
I was under the influence of JDM at the time I admit.... I am serious on this...no one has heard or noticed it before? I was worried it was just me because I wreak some havoc on shafts but I didn't think I'd be called out on substance abuse for it!!! MoreBeerBetterGolf
And BTW I was at the simulator tonight and played a round and a half. Have 3 different models of Crazy shafts in play tonight...every single one does the exact same thing. Exact. On my best Egg shots I swore the head was coming off the shaft at transition and release. If I grab the head in one hand and the end of the grip in the other and slightly rotate back and forth I can hear it.
wmclarenf1
2 scenarios: You;re really on crack as what Swiss suggested OR Your shafts may indeed be cracking due to any or all of the following: 1. You are playing shafts too soft for your swing speed and over time they have to give 2. Your shafts have been pulled before and at some point have been compromised
Spoon
probably not related but i get the same with my irons. usually from an improper placement of a ferrule:(
Vegaman
I have experienced this exact phenomenon with my ly-02 Shaft. I also have a pretty aggressive swing and I hear this sound when I really load The Crazy Shaft. A more appropriate description for Me would be a kind of "bow under tension" sound. Like The sound you hear in movi awhen warriors tensions their bows before releasing The arrow.
Vegaman
And The Shaft has zero integrity issues, The sound feels like it comes from The middle of The Shaft and not The tip. Mine CPMs out at 280 so it's for sure not too soft for me. But when I really load I hear that sound. I always thought The higher percentage off glass particles ang high modulus carbon was the reason for the sound.
idrive
I've swung many a Crazy both new and previously pulled. Never heard of this one before. But then I don't hear very well or swing that hard... Curious how many others.
MoreBeerBetterGolf
I figured I would get some heat for this, but after tonight I had to ask. I do not own a Crazy shaft that was bought used or had every been pulled before. The ones I have bought have all been authorized and brand new. Please bear in mind I am not complaining or knocking the shaft, just referring to something I have noticed. I am sure it gets exaggerated in the confines of indoor facilities like tonight, but there were a couple long Par 5s I was going for in 2 on that simulator where I really cranked on it and they gave a "creaking" sound on transition and release. The ones where I really heard it were monster shots, like ~230 carry with my Egg/FW80 combo with 105-106 club head speed with it. Vegaman's analogy is pretty good. I think the shafts I have all fit me pretty well according to the information I have read and been given so that shouldn't be an issue. I have always felt they give a club a glassy, tingly feel at impact and this is kind of a glassy/creaky sound when I load it. Again, zero complaints, just an observation. Crazy is king in my book. wmclarenf1
Maybe its the sound of your knees and back cracking.... JK... you;re not that old yet I don;t think.
Baddmnkey
I think you're on crack! Crack is Whack. I dont have enough experience with Crazy shafts so Im of no use on this topic. jaygolf
I've owned 6 or 7, never heard a crack. I don't hit like a fairy but my transition isn't too violent either. My guess is you buy lighters by the dozen and have slightly burned fingers.

chiromikey
i'm not a violent swinger but i get the ball out there plenty and i've never heard any noise from any of the 3 crazy shafts i have. interesting thread though...
xerobound
Sound very possible that the tighter glass particles will make a sound, especially with an aggressive transition where there is so much energy travelling through the shaft. This is interesting, I'm going to have to hit some Crazy shafts and really listen closely for the "crack" myself.
swisstrader
Can't that new fangled Fullmeire device help us decipher the crack mystery?? Seems like it does everything else
MoreBeerBetterGolf
My FW80 is more noticeable than the others. I know I even heard it in the 519 Proto/Ryoma V SPec I had that RIDuffer now has, so maybe he could weigh in on if he noticed it or not. Could very well be that I am just more sensitive to that frequency or something? I wouldn't think it would be anything my builder is doing because he's the only common denominator. I had never really noticed it as much until last night, I was in the simulator cubby hole at the end of the room against a wall and I am sure it really amplified the sound compared to being on a course or range. RIduffer
The times I have hit my Crazy shafts, it has never been quiet. Unless it is piercingly loud I am deaf too. I buy into the glass particle thing but I am a smoother swinger not as aggressive as you too... Does not mean I don't still think you're on something. Deer antler spray at a minimum... mygreenaliem
I have never heard this in any of my drivers with Crazy shafts (8nr) my 3 woods (2nr) or my rescue (1nr). I have an aggressive transition too. Who builds your clubs and how are they spined?
