MoreBeerBetterGolf
I want to get either a 3 and 5W setup with a 21* utility or a 3W and an 18 and 21* utility club. Problem is I don't know which setup or what clubs I want in a sea of awesome selections. They need to set up square, be easy to hit off the deck, and have a more dense solid feel versus a clanky ting. Been gaming the eggs and haven't found anything to kick them out of the bag yet but that won't keep me from trying. Would like egg like playability in a more traditional looking, sounding, and feeling club. Thoughts?
idrive
The only club (for me) that could knock out a 18* Egg FW is a Royal Collection TRC hybrid. Even then for a tight lie the Egg is the better, easier club to hit. The "clanky ting" is the only draw back to the egg if you don't like the sound. Spoon
I am in the same boat as u matt. I have been using 17* 4 wood for years with either a 21* ute or driving iron. Recently a picked up a yammy 3 w and got a crazy f19 5w which is 18.5.. Also picked up an ibrid 20 which i should have next week. I have never been good with lower lofted hybrids, never got used to having a 5w either. Hopefully different thisntime around
freehb04
18* RC JP104 FH w attas 3 8s...this is a missile launcher, very solid feeling.. I just don't have the swing speed for the shaft anymore... this should be a good thread, this is one of my favorite parts of my bag to redo...I can't kick out my egglets either but I really want to, I just don't like the sound but I've been playing poorly and have really come to rely on them... freehb04
the onoff type s fwy is very nice! I love 5w's! that is in the bag right now with a 21* egglet...I may give the new yonex utes/ fwys a spin, will let you know...have some 902s coming with a classic shaft (Rombex 6x07) in 21&24. I like carrying an extra ute at around 24, or even higher, most consistent club in my bag...4i may be gone unless I start playing better. +TourSpecGolfer
I'm in FW hell right now. I found my optimal combo to be the EGG II + Crazy FW80, I tried the Egg HD w/ FW80 and its just a bit too low for my swing, I also have the Ryoma F3 which I absolutely love its forgiveness and hitting it off the Tee box but from an uneven lie I have issues getting it in the air as well. Now with the stock shafts I get these woods up in the air just fine but I just can't count on my consistency like I do with the FW80 shaft. I would dump the most shots hitting 3 woods right or left. The FW80 has saved me countless strokes over the past year or so. Guess what... New Egg's coming in just a couple of months. Me is waiting! MoreBeerBetterGolf
Some good info here guys. I'm wondering about these type R RomaRo woods. Normally I prefer the stronger ball flight clubs but since I don't use fairways and especially UTs to tee off with that much I like a higher launching head off the deck matched with a pretty stout low spin shaft. (FW80 7.7) Any word yet on availability and pricing on the new Type R? The onoff stuff an RC of course always in hunt. RIduffer
I went through the UT hunt last couple of years. Have always hit my FWs well and still love the Miura Precious Edition. Nice and compact head with very solid feel. Moved to UTs because I wanted more compact. The UTs I have tried include RC TRC, ONOFF Type S, Epon 902, RomaRo UT and RomaRo iBrid. In order of preference: ONOFF iBrid RomaRo UT RC Epon 902. The Type S and iBrid are almost the same in standing, but the Type S edges it out because of the denser feeling at impact. I definitely prefer the more iron like look at address and that is the reason why the RomaRo UT took third place. The RC was OK but nothing great for me in terms of feel. If memory serves it was compact enough but somewhat hollow sounding/feeling. While the Epon 902 feels good the offset in it turns the club into a probable hook shot for me. RIduffer
Driver, 18* 21* 24* UTs, 5-P, 3 wedge, putter.... Sometimes I opt for a 13* 3 wood instead of the driver... The bag I have at my folks has a 3 wd in it, but...
DaleUK
Have you had much chance to git the Yams off the deck, big D? Yes I never ever use a Tee with the 3wood and off the deck it's awesome...in fact maybe , just maybe easier than the Ute( but I'm sure the shaft in my Ute is just slightly to stiff) The Ute (21*) out of the semi rough or worse is off the scale!! Again the sound at impact is stunning! Solid and crisp! That said , as ever saying they work for me doesn't mean they would work for someone else!! RIduffer
He;s not telling you why he doesn't carry a 3 wood. cause he hits it to damn far!!!! There are many here that hit it farther than I and everyone on WRX does too... It is really more about gapping and what kind of 2nd shots I need to hit. 18*/5wd is usually enough and when it isn't I probably shouldn't be going for the green any way...
