I seem to remember a thread on using iron shafts for wedges, but I can't find it. What's the benefit?

It's like softstepping which makes it play softer which in this case I definitely want. It also in some cases enhances feel and feedback and was supposed to be popular on tour from what I have read.

this, while allowing you to match your iron and wedge shafts to maintain a familiarity throughout the set.
