Ian-500
Hi all. I have a Yamaha XV FW 14* 3w with a Diamana Kai'li 70x playing at 42" and absolutely kill it off the tee. I love the mid-height ball flight, I love the sound, I love the distance and I definitely love the consistency. The only thing I can complain about is that I would like a slightly softer feel. Because of this 3w I searched around and came across some cheaper/older I.F.F. tour model Yamahas in the 17* 5w and 20* 7w so I snapped them up. My question is, to get a matching swing weight and all of the above, should I shaft the 5w and 7w with a Kai'li 70x and/or 80x at 41" and 40" respectively? JayDM
Generally don't game a 5 wood anymore and I've never gamed a 7 wood, but when my bag had both 3 and 5 woods they normally had the same weight and flex shafts unless I set up a 3 wood to play particularly stout then the 5 wood might get something in a heavier weight range. If the 80x isn't to stiff, I would say go 70x in the 5 and 80x in the 7.
chiromikey
I'm playing the same 5w and the stock graphite design shaft is shockingly good at 63g. I like heavy head, heavy swingweight and this set-up matched my 3w surprisingly well. I had a 75g shaft ready to go in this and decided to play a round with it as is first. That was several months ago and I now have no intentions of messing with the set-up. With that said, I'd use the same weight shaft for the 5 and 7... shacco
I actually play driver, 3w and 5w all at the same weight class. As long as you can keep the sw, i think you'll be fine.

It's very good and holds up well. I need to game them more to really assess them but so far the only thing I can criticise is the slightly higher ballflight compared to the Kai'li. I should remember to multi-quote. Lol. I'm going to get a 70g shaft in my driver head, 70 3w, 70 5w an 80 7w

I'm going to get a 70g shaft in my driver head, 70 3w, 70 5w an 80 7w I think you made the right choice going same weight. Swing weight should not be an issue despite the shorter lengths of the 5 and 7W given that generally speaking, the head weights of the 5 and 7W are heavier than the 3W. And any worthy club fitter will be able to work from there to get a matching swing weight.
