supo
built a 18* 5w yesterday with a quadra fire exress 75xs. although a bit light for me , as i resued the shaft form a 3 wood as an experiment... builder siad it might be ok but maybe a bit light,, he was dead right. was great just too light..... this hting is a brute, its really long its high and its damn powerfull. got to use it on course a few times in windy conditions. (it was def too light for me ) but i got it well enough to know that ill be building another with an 80+ weight shaft . i think this might be my fav FW head to look at address now. ,its mid profile, its neither big nor small face. a rounded triangle back with a big fat front end which delivers a heck of a powerfull blow. the combo is sensational there is NO way to over power this, and u can move it about a bit. easy to hit off fairway, and its good from a tee. hit a few 3w recently and now the 5w. cud eaily play this set up with the .388 as a bag set. the more i hit this syard stuff the more im liking it................ well well worht strong considerations if ur looking at new FW. gocchin
I reviewed the 5W, love the feel and the look at address. Its like a mini XV driver with the same matte finish and shape. Face is very nice pop, strong trajectory and very accurate. http://www.golftoimpress.com/s-yard-xv-fairway-wood-review/
supo
yup.. it really does give the ball quite a ping . T is it bec all the weight is at the face now now the rear ? its very noticeable in the .388 driver that as soon as u hit the ball it feel like it epxlodes off the face. which is totally dffernt to the drivres like the ryoma where the tail is so heavy its a heavier impact wheer the ball seems to sit o nthe face longer the impact feel totally different the ryoma has a very thumpy heavy feel to it adn the .388 has a very light electirc exploding feel at impact. gocchin
Yes electric is a way to put it, the CG is quite forward in the T.388 and a bit less so in the XV. The fairway wood is not as deep so in relation to the drivers the CG is not as high nor as forward but the design of the head still gives it that pop. RLL33
Thanks for mentioning the 5wd, Stew. I've been so blown away by the shots the 3wd keeps producing that I was thinking of adding the 5 as well. (I've actually overshot some greens with the 3wd that I used to have trouble reaching... and a few shots off the tee are reaching for the distance I get with a smooth t388 swing...) Thought the 5 might be nice to add some height on some shots from the fairway. Do you find much difference in distance between the 3 and 5? Or is it more question of trajectory? vanla01
I have the s yard 3 & 5 fw woods & definitely my favorite to date, easy to control & hit. I think S yard wood's hit it out of the ball park this year!

Richard I think its trajectory, but for me personally at the end of the day I don't loose much from carrying a 5W only and no 3W. The shorter length of the 5W allows for better contact and very similar distance. The 5W is very easy to get up off the fairway.
supo
for me.... theres a difffernce in distance and flight. the 5 wood on sunday iwas hitting about 220-230 ish... the 3 wood ive got a bit longer with from a tee with the exact same shaft. the quadra fex 75xs, but the 5 wood is too light with this shaft in it. was perfect i nthe 3 wood. onshorter length tracks with shorter par 5s.. or when im off the forward tees. then just the 5 wood is perfectly ok. the flight is great. no issues at all
