Posted January 17, 201411 yr Hows that for tongue twister. Yet again George Takei has moved on to do another brand. This time though things are very different as the company George Spirits is staying in business as he was not the owner in the first place. He is still an advising designer for the brand he just is no longer the face of it and will be starting his own brand in 2014... About 6 months ago he got into a really bad car accident and was in the hospital for almost 2 months. This is true. His responsibilities for the GS brand was to do tour service on the JPGA, design and travel to various accounts. He couldn't fulfill his responsibilities so he decided to resign. A new staff has already come in and filled the void. Pretty interesting to say the least. Gauge Design Japan to G-Field to George Spirits... what's next? He's definitely a character and not a business man, mostly a designer. Just wanted to share this with the gang, any thoughts?
January 17, 201411 yr I think that putter I bought with his name on it, although feeling a little "clicky", rolls the ball as well and straight as any putter I've ever used.
January 17, 201411 yr Unfortunately, the first reaction was "again?!". I like the stuff that he does and if it's under different labels, that's fine with me.
January 18, 201411 yr It's not a big surprise for him to change his workplace, but it's very interesting what will he come up for his own brand.
January 19, 201411 yr Moves and changes can refresh the industry ... bring new ideas ... new designs ... or even going back to his roots. Looking forward to know what comes out from this new endeavor!
January 26, 201411 yr Author Will George's new brand be supported by TSG? I like others like his designs. Absolutely!
January 27, 201411 yr i thought GS was his brand. for me if he can do what he did in the old G field then you have a winner. was not impressed with any of the GS offerings to be honest. looking forward to his new brand.
April 11, 201410 yr Author Yup, GTD - George Takei Designs He is the designer not owner. The product looks promising.
April 13, 201410 yr He's a talent for sure...unlike others, I loved the gs mono line...really quality gear that performs!
April 21, 201410 yr Why couldn't he stay? I'm sure the investors would understand his situation (accident and all). I would have thought having " George" in the name would have him see this brand through.
April 21, 201410 yr Author Weird stuff ya know in Japan, I'm sure there was more than one reason there always is but he still supports them. I do know the original investor was bought out putting them under new leadership. I met up with him in Japan recently, met the GTD team and this seems like a really good spot for him. Thanks, Chris
