gocchin
Titleist had a press conference touting their new VG3 lineup for 2014. The woods look awesome. The best image I could find of the irons is this one. I am hesitant to pass judgement yet until I see them in person next month but it looks like they may have gotten more forgiving than before with a larger undercut and perhaps wider sole. tokidoki1986
Can't wait to see more photos and feedback from this iron.
stevopagolf
The cavity design looks "cleaner". Geez I hope they don't go even wider on the sole. The only thing I really think that would make my 2010 VG3's better would be a slightly narrower sole... I still have high hopes on this release! When will they be released and open for orders? Henry
Me too, the sole is just perfect right now. I am ok seeing a little of it at address on the 4 iron but would hate for it to be wider and chunkier. Thats just me. Hope for the best! Looks a little like Mizuno JPX style with the slight curve on the sole?
Shankopotamus
From a solely aesthetic viewpoint, I'm not a fan of that badge
Henry
There will be 2 models of the VG3 irons for 2014. standard VG3 and the Type E model. Looks like Type E model will have much wider sole and target market is similiar to the XXIO forged players. The regular VG3 model may actually be slightly smaller in size compared to the present model but the pictures I have seen is difficult to say for sure. +TourSpecGolfer
I gotta assume the one in the pics is the bigger model.
Henry
go to analyze2005.com, go into the fist blog on the upper right side and then scroll all the way down. There is another picture of the VG3 iron. I dont know how to copy and paste the picture but the iron does look interesting.

+TourSpecGolfer
They could have done a lot better, It's just flat out ugly. I'm hoping this is not the smaller model.
Spoon
could be the angle but if thats it i agree with C. the previous models looked so clean and compact. this one reminds me xxio irons.
Shankopotamus
Kind of whale like. Yup, I totally see the resemblance.
Shankopotamus
Looks like I made the right choice picking up a used set of yammy v forged, Although I must admit that my eyes are now floating over to the 2013 Onoffs.
Henry
My search appears to be narrowed down to the 2013 On Off Forged, Yamaha RMX forged and still liking the Mizuno JPXIII forged but need more information on Mizuno regarding head size, sole width etc. I think they actually are being released today! +TourSpecGolfer
Here are my suggestions: Tied for 1st: RomaRo Type-R & ONOFF 13 Forged Tied for 2nd: PRGR Egg Forged & Yamaha RMX Forged ( I have not hit )
stevopagolf
I hope this picture is the uber-forgiving model. My wallet hopes it is not. Maybe someone can get us the AP1 forged from Korea, that looks good!
+TourSpecGolfer
A little more info in, there are 2 versions of the irons pardon the crappy pictures but it shows a setup that is very similar to the previous VG3, It's actually a bit thinner at the top line imo. Titleist has taken market share from XXIO which has been the game improvement gear king for many years. The VG3 has been very successful in this regard. Titleist has new balls, new driver/fairway/utility and 2 new irons coming out in the VG3 series. That "whale" looking picture above is indeed the smaller version and yes its very similar to a hair smaller than the previous. Finally some good news in this thread! tokidoki1986
The picture of the top line is look very nice there unlike the look of the cavity.
Henry
Wow, the top line does look a little thinner. Chris, do we know what club that is? Looks like a 4 or 5 iron and the sole does not even show at address!! Edited January 22, 2014 by Henry
Henry
There are some new videos on Youtube for the 2014 VG3 lineup. Perhaps Youpressed can import them into this forum! The irons look really sharp!!
Shankopotamus
I've watched those YouTube vids over and over and over again at an attempt to get used to the curvy shape of the cavity on those irons. Just can't do it. IMO, just ugly. To each his own, right. 2012 is my favorite design so far.

gocchin
Titleist just had their product announcement here in Japan today. There is the VG3 Iron and the VG3 Iron Type E The VG3 Iron has similar size, offset and lofts to the previous models with changes to the weighting, cavity AND materials. The body is forged from S20C steel matched with a new forged S45C face! The reason for the S45C is that it is stronger than S20C so can be made thinner and hotter for even more distance. The Type E has even stronger lofts, is considered oversize ie it will compete with XXIO and other average golfer higher handicapper models. The Type E uses a S45C forged body and ST1770 face which is in fact very similar material wise to the XXIO Forged. We should have demos soon but we may see them first at the show in a couple of weeks.
