kamen rider
Got the FE Max WBQ 55SR (62g / 4.2 torque / 242 cpm) and FE FW Type D 65SR (68g / 2.7 torque / 257 cpm) The WBQ 55SR suits me pretty well with a smooth & stable tip feel but the Type D 65SR feels stout with a firm tip (same results with 2 different 3 wood heads) The specs for the Type D 65SR; 68g (6g heavier) and 257 cpm (15 cpm increase for 1" shorter) seems perfect to match the driver shaft but performance shows otherwise, I presumed that the low torque of 2.7 caused the shaft to feel stout The FW Type D 55R (60g / 3.5 / 250cpm) and 55S (63g / 3.4 / 266 cpm) specs doesn't seems to match the WBQ 55SR either Will I achieve the same feel & performance using the same driver shaft tipped for 3 wood? Eca
What result are you getting? Low, weak & right?
kamen rider
spot on! low weak fade, how did you know? what do you think it's the cause?
Eca
It should be with how you described how the shaft felt. Fairway shaft that is feeling stout & tip stiff will typically have this result. You might want to try a softer tip profile like the ilima. There are of course a lot of options out there to try. 3w is a tougher one to get right. Edited January 31, 2014 by Eca
JDM noobie
I've been looking for the right 3wd shaft myself. I tried illima 70s and it wasn't launching high enough and always have that fade at the end of the ball flight. Since I have a spare illima 60r, I gave it a try. It's way too spinny, on trackman it's around 4200rpm. Ball kinda climb rapidly then fall with very little roll. Now I'm trying diamana thump f65R, ball flight is much better. Definitely way less spinny then illima (3600 rpm ish), but still haven't decided yet wether I want to tip it 0.5" or butt cut. My driver SS is in the low 90 mph
kamen rider
I think I found my shaft for the 3 wood - NSPro Regio FW 70R, 69g, 3.2deg torque, 277cpm The original Tour AD MX613F S flex on Impres XV 3 wood launch a touch too low for me (good distance with plenty of roll though) and a non committed swing will bring the ball right. The Regio came marked 277cpm, and my heart sank cos I could not handle the FE FW Type D @ 257cpm. Upon testing, the Regio FW felt smooth with a decent launch, the impact felt different (soft) as well. All these could be due to the profile of the shaft which is stiff butt, softer mid profile and stable tip. The Regio FW also came marked with the logo facing up, checked the spine - perfect at 9.00 o'clock, also marked at the butt for various trimming at 1/2" interval. My swing speed for driver is 95-98 mph
