Posted April 5, 201410 yr Okay so VG3 demos finally arrived and I was able to compare the current VG3 Forged to the previous model. I still have to take more detailed pics so for now its by first impression since I finally have them side by side. Physical size, they are sooooo close. However design aspects of the new head give the illusion that it is smaller. A few things Titleist did to make it seem this way, they opted for a real satin finish which is more subdued and does not reflect like the only slightly brushed chrome mirror on the previous VG3. They made the actual cavity area smaller ie the back face heel area of the new model is much bigger as the cavity does not extend there unlike the previous model, so while dimensions are very close, the smaller cavity makes the new model look smaller. The new model has a more pronounced tapered topline which makes it look thinner when they are in reality about the same. On the sole side, the newer model may be a tad thicker but not by much, again this may be due to the design since the toe area is wider and the leading edge rounder while the sole of the previous model had more equal thickness from the toe to heel with a straighter leading edge. I still prefer the looks of the previous two models, but the newer one and its rounder more curvy design is not as bad as I had previously though when I saw them under the poor lighting at the golf fair. They set up nice and feel nice which is what counts. I'll be taking more pics for a more visual comparison later.
April 5, 201410 yr Can't wait to hear more! Still rocking my 2010's! Was hoping for a slightly narrower sole than previous models.
April 5, 201410 yr These look good, can't wait to see how they stack against the CB358.Thought the 358 was targeted at a different customer than the VG3?
April 5, 201410 yr Thought the 358 was targeted at a different customer than the VG3? They are both CB's that overlap segments. Not too far apart. Casual golfers can adapt to both and professionals as well.
April 5, 201410 yr I like Titleist, but I think the CB358 is going to kill the VG3 in overall feel and performance. The CB358 made sharper and more compact sounds like something that would stand against the best of the best irons out there...but we'll see. For some reason the new VG3 reminds me of a Humpback Whale when I look at it...
April 5, 201410 yr Author The CB358 is classified as a tour model. The VG3 is more of an average golfer model that better players can play. This is more so this year when Titleist split the VG3 into 2 iron models.
April 6, 201410 yr Saw both the regular new VG3 and the E-type (larger, more Gi) irons here in Osaka today. The Regular model looks really nice in person, I actually like the curvy lines. The E-type was just ugly, looked cumbersome Edited April 6, 201410 yr by Vegaman
April 6, 201410 yr Had the opportunity to finally hit some balls with the 2014 VG3 irons. Compared to the 2012 model, the 2014 irons are softer feel and slightly higher trajectory. Edited April 8, 201410 yr by Henry
April 14, 201410 yr Played a few more times and can state these irons will be a keeper. In my opinion, a definite improvement over previous models. I find them easier to hit than the 2012 model. Seem to be more automatic and the ball seems to be more "springy" when hit. If you are worried about the looks, don't be. I think the original pictures published did not do the clubs justice. Looks are just fine. Overall, a well balanced game improvement iron. stevopagolf....Its time to upgrade! Edited April 14, 201410 yr by Henry
