October 13, 201410 yr comment_232374 At first I hit nothing but duck hooks with this driver. I was so disappointed feeling it was a waste of money. Then I took a lesson where the pro weakened my grip, altered my setup, and advised me to shorten my backswing. The next time out I was hitting bombs with the Ryoma Maxima Special Tuning driver. I added 20+ yards and even hit one 35 yards beyond my average drive. Since then I've played 5 or six times with my drives remaining long and straight. The toe shots gear effect with a little draw back into the fairway with about 10 yards of loss. Moral of story, in most cases it the Indian and not the arrow, but a good arrow is a big help. Your issues at first are not Special Tune specific, many people have encountered this issue with the base Maxima but what I notice is that people with a decent to good basic swing fundamentals get big distance. Very fast swingers need to tame it down by tweaking the build i.e heavier tip stiff shaft. My wife is a +20yds with a conforming Maxima vs her D-1 Ryoma. For me, I'm not gonna sell my ST Maxima, I've had 6 different shafts in it, when I'm swinging good nothing is longer, when I'm swinging bad it gets bad, right now Crazy Type B in Stiff is in it, want to go a touch softer but it's really long, easy up... I couldn't agree with you more.
