Posted June 25, 201410 yr Mizuno TN-87 ( Tommy Nakashima 1987 ) - Don't you love it when the classics make a return? And boy was this a classic, originally released in 1988 There are still set's of the original TN-87's floating around on the web in a variety of conditions. Finding a brand new set is next to impossible. So why are these so highly coveted? Tommy Nakashima was at one point the #1 player on the JPGA tour, but that's really not the reason why Mizuno blade purists love them. It's first and foremost the shape, then feel that make up its cult appeal. Mizuno used a copper under layer below the chrome mirror finish, copper is a double edged blade because while it does create a nice soft and dense impact it also causes slight imperfections in the finishing process. If anyone tells you, it's to hide pitted steel they have no clue. Ready for the brutal part? These are going to cost an arm and a leg, when released there are no options to choose from, you must buy as they Mizuno offers the set. 10pcs 3-PW + AW+SW for a whopping 4 grand! That's right 4 g's people! If it helps it comes with a bag tag with your name on it... There are some differences, the lie angle on the wedges have been tweaked ever so slightly also there is now a gap wedge AW that never existed before, because it was not around at the time of the original it does not have the stamping TN-87 on it, but is part of the set and only sold with this set. If you are interested in locking one of these beauties up, you must email asap. I'm willing to bet even at this price they will not last long. [email protected]
June 25, 201410 yr Author Of course we can work out a good price for our supporting members. One thing to note is Mizuno will make as many sets as ordered before July 31st 2014. The release date is Janurary 2015! No orders will be accepted after July 30th 2014 Japan time.
June 26, 201410 yr Not that I can or would buy these if I had the money, but I have some questions: 1.) Is this exactly the same irons that were made back in the day? 2.) Outside of the tweaked lofts, will there be any new technology put into them? 3.) I'm honestly very ignorant of why these irons (outside of being Mizuno's) were coveted so much. Could someone please enlighten a brother? OK, now that that's out of the way, THERE IS NO WAY ON GOD'S GREAT EARTH WOULD I DO THIS!!!!! As much as I love JDM stuff....I can't pull the trigger on this one...can't. I'd use that money for some custom Buchi or Mizuno Yoro irons or something...jeez! My future full RomaRo set with staff bag and Nippon shaft build wouldn't come close to this!!! (sigh) Man, I told myself I wasn't gonna' bitch about this....damn! My bad ya'll.... :( Edited June 26, 201410 yr by shoutout33
June 26, 201410 yr Author No difference except a single club has a different lie by 1* and also the AW that is entirely new. Outside of that it's the same design. People love these because of the shape and feel.
June 26, 201410 yr The Miz store here still had 3-4 sets as of 2 years ago. About $800. Also I have seen a previously existing gap wedge. My friend bought a set of blueprinted TN 87s from JoeK about 12 years ago and it came with a gap wedge. I'll try to track it down to see if I can take pics. It also did not have TN87 on it but had the same markings as the rst of the set.

Yup the AW was never part of the original set for TN, it was added when customers requested it in numbers, I'm not 100% sure but I believe TN had his own AW preference at the time mizuno produced the TN-87 for him.
June 26, 201410 yr Oh man, I've always wanted these. Mizuno softness with an extra layer of butter. $4000, no. Sadly.
July 4, 201410 yr In the day, these were the very best ever. I would love to buy a set, however this decrepit old fool is no longer good enough to use them. If there is such a thing as golf porn, the TN 87s are it!!
July 6, 201410 yr Just to clarify. All the heads will have the same loft as originals? So pw about 50 deg? I have a nice refinished set of MP-14 ,s that are fun to play, but the TN-87 are just Flat out sexy...
July 19, 201410 yr Author Final day to order is July 31st as these are made to order. Lofts are the same as the originals.
