mojo
Does anyone know how to tell the difference between Japan forged 300's and the retail kind? Thanks for your help. Chris
phillypete
The Japanese ones cost more. Actually I haven't heard anyone able to tell me the difference. I have heard that the ones that have the made in Japan sticker on them are actually forged in Thialand by Endo. The only way to get Muria for sure is get a tour set. haribo
Two options. Either the famous sticker on the 5 iron, but I'm not sure if that is actually a believable source. It's a sticker, nuff said. Or you pull the shaft. Reason is simply, TM tour or japan issue heads are being forged at Miura. Miura uses a copper underlay before the heads go to chrome. By pulling the shaft you might be able to see traces of that copper inside the hosel. I have Firesole Forged irons. Bought them heads only. I could clearly see copper inside the hosel. haribo
juststeve
The odds are very much against finding a non tour set that come from Miura in Japan. At the very beginning such existed but I suspect they are well used by now. Setting aside phoney clubs, you have a Japan forged set if: 1. There is no serial number on the five iron, and 2. Satin Finish, or 3. A hosel stamp, NS or the like. If the five iron has a serial number, you got a retail set, no matter what else.
