Mjr. D
I just installed some Modus 3 wedge shafts into my Vokey wedges. I sanded the tips lightly, used a medium amount of epoxy and then aligned them up but the shafts are very loose. If you pick them up with the shaft the head will spin around and point downward... that's how loose they fit. When I bought the Vokeys they came installed with DG S200 shafts and I measured the tips and they are the same size as the Modus 3 wedge shaft tips. Is this a normal occurrence or is something not right? Let me know your thoughts please. Thanks.
robbie
Is it possible that the Vokeys were parallel tips and the modus are taper ??? perhaps the tapering is different on the shafts due to manufacturer specs.....im sure some mesh fiberglass tape or sanding beads will tighten the fit and center the shaft. nobmontana
I've had that experience with Vokeys. I think their hosels are slightly larger than other standard .355" hosels. They end up slightly off centered due to how I cure the epoxy leaning the club against the wall. It's very slight ... so I don't worry about it too much. clevelaand
Purchase some Golfworks Quick Center Shafting Beads. Anytime you install a shaft, mix the glue, sprinkle in some beads on the glue and mix in, then when you apply the glue and install the shaft, it will center better and fit much tighter. The looser the shaft before installing, the more beads you use. Good luck.
Mjr. D
Thanks, I used beads but it was still super loose. Oddly enough the 52 was snug, it was the 56 and 60 that were loose.... Man there are not enough standards in the golf club industry. Damn.
Shambles
I'm wondering if those are experienced heads and some fool cleaned the hosels with a drill bit. You might also have a couple of heads that are the next hosel size up, i.e., .370 instead of 0.355 . Take it to a good club maker and check the hosel size. There is a small tool for that purpose and a good cluib maker would probably have it. If he doesn't, he will probably have a .370 shaft that can give you the information you need. If not, visit a shaft store and bring the head with you. If you cannot do the above and your shafts are steel, an alternative is to dimple the tip or simply use bigger grain beads or even sugar as a filler. clevelaand
Well, if it is that loose, then just use a shim.
donnieu
If a shim is too large for the gap, you can cut 3 or 4 of the shim legs off.
