Miura PP-9005 Passing Point Irons

Miura PP-9005 Passing Point Irons - Miura Giken appears to be going in a new design direction or at least trying things they havent in the past Miura usually makes spin welded forged iron heads by hand in Japan while the new Passing Point Neo PP-9005 is their first model that's a 2 piece head design including a deep cavity undercut, when I say 2 piece it's because the face and body are separate and different materials, the body is S20C while the face is SUP-10 steel and the result is actually Miura's most forgiving, longest distance, and largest club head they ever made. Oh and one more thing these are not made by Miura unlike their other models which is an interesting move on their part.

Is not made in Japan that big of a deal? I think the answer to that question depends on what you want generally 2 piece heads with stainless faces and a deep undercut often feel & sound hollow and louder higher pitch at impact and in our testing the Miura PP-9005 doesn't feel or sound like any of the other Miura irons but on the flip side what it lacks in that familiar softer forged feel it gains in distance and forgiveness.

The new font does look classic yet modern and the badge inside the cavity while serving no purpose is a welcome addition to the aesthetics of this design as without it there could be an emptiness to it. Before release MG was taking the prototypes to various stores in Japan to preview and as a prototype it didn't look as polished and perfect as it could have, good news is the retail version has it's act together and is well put together.

Especially the view at address, very minimal offset, shape is very nice from all angles, finish is quality, it looks doesn't look fully like a Miura shape nor does it look hand ground but it's still very nice It's address is my favorite angle on the club and so is it's shape face forward.

So what irons do these compare to? ONOFF Kuro, ONOFF RB247G, XXIO Forged, Srixon Z545, Honma TW727P and RomaRo Alpha just to name a few and those are all fantastic options making it hard to choose.

So my suggestion is first to consider what is most important to you, to some most important is distance and forgiveness with address and feel taking the back seat while for others its the exact opposite. Unfortunately no combo sets are available.

Slight trailing and noticeable leading edge grind, sole is not all that rounded and not that wide, overall the iron is shorter heel to toe. On our test days it went up against the ONOFF Kuro and new RomaRo Alpha with Modus3 120 shafts and all three had their positives and we found we liked each for different reasons:

RomaRo Alpha - More rounded, more refined looking, larger head, more forgiving, longer, felt a little better than the Miura PP-9005 for being a 2 piece undercut design

ONOFF Kuro Forged - slightly thinner but longer heel to toe, much softer and better feeling, distance was about 2-4yds less in the same iron dispite different shafts, most workable of the 3

So I would say RomaRo Alpha for person who wants best distance, forgivness, higher trajectory and ease of use, ONOFF Kuro for a person who wants softest and lower launch angle and most workable 1 piece feel, Miura PP-9005 for compact sexy address with just a little more forgiveness than the Kuro

Miura Giken is using what they call an Accurise & copper finish which they says slides through the rough with less resistance while the copper under layer helps it feel softer. We have the new PP-9005 in the TSG Proshop right now it's sold only as 4-PW heads only or custom built. Do keep in mind the strong lofts the PW is at 44*

Demoed this club and i must say WOW

The feel is totally different from the other models of the PP
