Posted August 11, 20159 yr I play my irons and woods 1/2" over standard, based on this what length should my putter be? Right now I use a 34" putter. I'm 6'4" - totally average length arms for my height.
August 11, 20159 yr it all depends on how long your arms are and how you set up - do you bend over more or less. probably also a function of what kind of putter suites you and your stroke as this affects where your eyes are - are they directly over the ball or slightly inside. short answer - go get a putter fitting on a SAMs puttlab.
August 11, 20159 yr I don't believe putter length bears much relation to length of the other clubs. It's all about personal style and preference. I know some fitters measure from the wrist break at the thumb to the floor to assist in making a recommendation. But personally, I'd grab one of Ping's adjustable length Scottsdale's and play around with it to find the length where you feel most comfortable and make the most putts.

I have used 35" putters for a long time and then one day tried a 34" and thought I was stroking it much better. Then I switched recently to a 38" counterbalanced putter. ( Supposedly a 38" CB putter is equivalent to a 35" normal putter ) Required a bit of getting used to but as RLL says, whatever you feel most comfortable and you putt the best is what I think you should go with. The other day, I played with a guy who was like 6'8" and he had an Odyssey belly putter (probably 38") that he set up and used like a normal height person would use a 34" putter. he was putting very well with it.
August 11, 20159 yr I have come to think getting the putter fit right is the biggest leverage from fitting there is of all the clubs in terms of the score. This guy has the most comprehensive research re this, works closely with Byron Morgan - he helps you get the specs, best head. Byron builds to these specs. Length will impact how far you are from ball, the degree of arc in the stroke. http://bargolfinstruction.blogspot.in/.
