Hello All

I wondered if someone could help me please. I just played a tournament against someone who had a full Honma S-03 set. Beautiful looking and lots of gold everywhere....all the heads were gold (not the irons), I mean the fairway woods, three wood and driver. In fact I have never seen anything so gold ! :)

I looked for any indication on the driver that said it was USGA/R&A conforming (like there was on my Kamui and Ryoma) but I could not find anything. I wondered if anyone knew if the driver is conforming or a link where I could check it. The pictures that I found on various sites for the S-03 all had black heads but these had gold crowns.

I don't know if there is a way of telling conforming versus non-conforming with these clubs. The shafts were ARMQ8 four-star. Someone on E-Bay has a listing for these drivers with gold heads as non-conforming so I am confused.....

Thanks for the help!

They are conforming, S-03 is only made in conforming, 4-5 star models have endless custom options, Sakata will do whatever you want with these including hand roll a custom shaft with any spec and paint u can imagine on the shaft or the head.

this person had the standard 4 star shaft & head which is full gold. i will post pics of my S-05 4 star soon, it isnt gold, I went with all matte black.

I remember reading your blog post on that gorgeous 455S that you had built. Do you still play it? Do you prefer the S-05?

Someone also mentioned that the non-conforming faces have a C+ on the toe corner.

I tend to agree with you that the club he played with looks like a conforming version though.

That is correct from Honma in the S-03 there is something on the toe to designate high cor, and yes S-03 can be made high cor in 4-5 stars per customer request.

I sold that Honma driver a while back, I now have the S-05 version in 4 Star, will post up soon.

I have hit a few Honma drivers over the years. Most have been 2 star models, all with good to excellent performance. What is the performance advantage a 4 star shaft gives you? (distance , dispersion etc).

Better carbon basically which allows you to rely less on timing to square the club face, smaller bad shots and more straightness.

Jump to 5 stars and honma will do whatever you want, custom handroll you whatever shaft and any spec, profile, color u need. same with the head they basically put it together from scratch at your request with their full factory capabilities at your request.

I tried to get a hold of my friend's S-03 club with the 4-star shaft to put on my driver head, but he is still in love with it ! :)

I would love to swap out the Vizard shaft in my Honma 455S for a ARMQ8 shaft (3 stars ideally). But it appears that Honma does not sell the shafts on their own.

So if anyone has a Honma driver shaft in any star and shape (but SR or R) will they please let me know....(I will post on the BST WTB also). Around 55 to 63 gms would be perfect.
