Can you pick this stuff up at your local hardware store? And can I use paint thinner as a lube on the tape?

If i need grip tape i usually pick it up at my local sports store, or store that distrbutes hockey products. If you are talkin about the same grip tape i am talking about then it can be had for about 2 or 3 bucks for quite a decent sized roll at a sports store.

I am not sure on the paint thinner though, suspect it would work, but i am not an expert at that kind of stuff.

Im guessing your talking about double sided tape for installing grips. Many stores carry it but it seems like the easiest to just order a half dozen rolls for 20-25.00 from most any golf component company. The answer to your second question is yes. I buy a gallon of mineral spirits at any home depot or hardware store for $5-6.00. If your doing a lot of clubs, pick up a cheap, paint roller pan and a small funnel to reuse the excess.
