Titleist is too big and too smart to have not written non-compete clauses into the Purchase Agreeement with Scotty Cameron. Scotty may be able to leave Titleist, but he would never be able to go to the competition. Nike would be taking on a huge potential liability. Will not happen.

Scotty has addressed this many times and has just signed a long term agreement last year with them. He has made them rich and they have made him rich. He may have an out but, why would he leave? If anyone should be with Nike, it should be Bettinardi.

Is this an attempt to start some controversy?

Scotty is only in year three of a ten year deal. He is going nowhere. And he certainly not going to go to Nike. For what?

Things are going quite well for SC and Titleist, there is absolutely no reason for tension. Phil just won the Masters! The whole crew is hungover!

These rumor's have been around for years, since Nike decided to start making clubs. First it was Tad Moore, he was going to leave Dunlop/Maxfli and go to Nike. He even designed some protos that didn't go well, but he never signed. Then it was Kirk Curre, he was going to come over, supposedly there were protos made, but there was never any proof to that. Then it was Bettinardi, but he signed with Hogan. Then it was Kevin Burns, but he signed with Tourstage.

And Scotty has been in and out of rumors the entire time, simply because of Tiger and at earlier points Duval. He's not going anywhere for a long time. And even if he wanted to there's no way Titleist would let him. After losing Duval and Woods to Nike you can bet Titleist would have full use of the Fortune Brands legal funds to stop it.

Well um, somethings going on right now, I'm not sure what it is but some big$$ offers were made recently. I don't know nothing about his contract right now but I think Nike could actually treat him better than titty is.

I guess building himself a brand new studio wasnt enough? On top of that he just opened up his authentication service, and that looks to be going great. If he had any thought of switching companies he would have done it before doing the two above things.

I would think that if SC did attempt to leave there would be some huge payoffs for Patent issues.

The issue would be more trouble than it it worth for all involved.

Titleist would then either her have the choice to bar the name of Scotty Camron gracing the back of anything non-titleist or they would have to purchase the rights to use the name and keep it sononymous to TList and let SC do what he pleases.

Not sure how that would work.

Let's hope it is old news!!

The rumor's been around for years, about once a year it pops on on various golf sites. Last year it was BSG, year before that GO, year before that GEA, and every year somebody tries to start it in the Scotty Cameron Fan Club.

But its never been anything but unconfirmed specualition. It was strongest when his contract was up, but its died down since then.

I think he owns the name, not Titleist. Scotty isn't his real name, its Donald or something like that but he has trademarked the Scotty Cameron name supposedly.

When Cameron left Mizuno after making the "Reason" series of putters, Mizuno could no longer use the Cameron name. But they continued to produce putters that were almost exactly the same, still called the them "The Reason" and changed model designations from the regular M-100 etc to MC-100(or something like that).

Then it was Kevin Burns, but he signed with Tourstage.

Kevin is still making his signature putters however.

Nick

Thats one highly underrated putter. The tourstage KB series is top notch.

to many great products now days....I cant keep up :x

wasnt he a sales rep for ray cook before he made his first putter at mizuno?

He may have done that on the side but he designed and produced putters for them. The Ray Cook M1-X Mallet is a Cameron design, as well as one of the milled Blue Goose models, but I forget the model name/#.

Its weird, people always say he gets his know how and ideas from having worked with Tad Moore at Maxfli, but he didn't do that until after he'd left Ray Cook. And he also worked at Cleveland around the same time Ken Giannini was there(someone more in the Cameron know than me might be able to tell a story about that, I swear there is one but I can't remember it). He was briefly with Founder's Club too, though I can't remember if he ever designed anything, before going to Mizuno. And the weird part is, all of this happened within like a 2 or so year period. He was sort of all over the place.

Tourspecgolfer, I might be getting a Kevin Burns custom made putter (9320 style), he makes great putters and his process in building thhe club is second to none, I'm suprised not many people use tham.

Appelby uses them on occasions but he is always changing, Stadler has one, Olazabal used to use one before he signig his Macgregor contracts.
