ethan
The only way I can seem to hit well, especially with the driver, is by using a ten finger grip. Is this very unusual? I think that Bob Estes on the tour uses this grip, but I'm not sure. Maybe someone has some input for me.
jinjuwooa
Funny that you just posted on this subject. I just tried switching back to the 10 finger grip yesterday just for my driver. Reason being is that my distance has been lacking and control off. Guess what, I have gained distance and my control is back. Not unusual at all in my opinion as we need to try different things to improve our games. I think you are correct, Bob Estes does use a 10 finger. If it continues to work I may try it on all my clubs.
jeffy
I have used the ten finger grip in practice with my driver if I feel my grip pressure and wrists are too tight: it promotes a full wrist cock and a livelier release through impact. Sometimes I'll practice swing with the ten finger to capture that freer feel, than slip into my usual overlap on the actual swing. No reason not to use it if it works; some teachers encourage it for handicap players. Two successful tour pros from the 50's and 60's, Masters winner Art Wall and PGA champ Bob Rosburg, used the ten finger grip and won a lot of tournaments. AGurney
After reading this post and while I was at the range yesterday I decided I would hit a couple of drives with the 10 finger grip. I crushed all the drives and found I was very relaxed with the grip. I hit some iron shots as well and really made solid contact. I'm going to give it a try on the course. azzetla
I think the late Moe Norman had a ten fingure grip, and he was the best ball stricker to ever live.
raynman619
I've tried the 10 finger grip and I always felt that I got too handsy with the swing and I couldnt get my hands to relax and be more natural. I recently went with an 8 finger grip ( double overlapping) like what Jim Furyk uses and it's worked wonders for my game. I'm less handsy and I hit the ball alot straighter. I guess to each his own. If the 10 finger grip works for you, no harm in using it.
garth
I have used the 10 finger grip for a while, but only when I'm chipping or trying to hit punch shot. I read somewhere that el Tigre does this to help him release his hands on bump and runs. It works pretty well.
