im just curious what are the grooves on the 1 iron sole for? A design to get the ball up from the fairway I reckon?

Wow! haven't seen those before. Normally a sole like that is intended to hit the ball from iffy lies, bunkers included. Well, with the advent of hybrids, we won't see the likes of this again. Perhaps it's just as well.

Only the 1 iron is like that. Thease are easily the best Mizuno product I have ever had including: mp29' mp14,mp33 amd mp 9. They were the softest ; most forgiving and long with the s400's. I will never sell my set I got from a JPGA player in 1994.

Well, I must defer to you since you own a set. The thicker sole and grooves must've been intended to make the 1 iron easier to hit. Mizunos have always had soft feel and I expect that these are no different.

Mike,

They are in some of the Miz shops we have. They go for about 20% less than the 87s. :smile2:

Hadn't noticed, Toby. Thanks for the heads-up.
