Scooter321
What ever happend to Tourspec Refinishing...I dont see there link on the sight anymore...if they still exsist, what do people think of the refinishing they have done for you? Does the finish show any wear what-so-ever? etc...
+TourSpecGolfer
They are gone gone gone, No one was interested only 2 sets were refinished so I gave the service up.

Bad idea, they charge through the roof and of the 3 zodias of i have seen ( 1 was mine and 2 belonged to someone i know) all rusted after less than 5 rounds of play. I have seen there work before, being that I live fairly close, and the work they do is terrific...the prices arent cheap but the work they do is great. I had my wedges origonally done at the Iron Factory and am pissed at how poorly they have worn. The Iron Factory did a TERRIBLE job (looked good when they came but wore out really quick). Who do you suggest?

If you call up Iron Factory and tell them their was a problem they will take them back and redo them for free. They had some problems this winter and spring when the owner was having health problems, but I think their back doing great work now. To be honest with you, the Iron Factories customer service is some of the worst I have ever seen (especially now that easy isnt there anymore). Their refinishing was pretty terrible if you ask me as well. As far as garunteeing it goes, that is what I was told as well, but they didnt hold up to it on their end. I am pretty fed up with the Iron Factory. CGC, from what Max told me, who I have a good relationship with does garuntee their work. There work is definetly better than the iron factory, even though it is more expensive.
+TourSpecGolfer
Its hit and miss with refinishing. Mad Max has done some crook things with making used retails in to Satin Tours brand new at the request of Hitler but I have seen his work and its not bad at all. Iron factory I have heard great and bad things about. I don't think its possible to get a completely OEM quality finish from anyone no matter how good they are. Custom of CT don't do their own work, they probably out source to a auto chroming company so you do have a middle man there. Not to rain on anyones party but it only costs the chromer less than 5.00 per head to do it and the middle man gets charged 10.00 a head. so where do people get 45.00 and even worse 60.00 a head, thats insane. Chris if you start up again and charge only $20 or so I'm sure you will get a ton of business. Everyone wants to get on the satin/3x black/antique finish bandwagon. I wish it was, I would still probably charge 30.00 but thats still a steal compared to whats out there. Its just too hard because with chromers you just cant have top quality each and every time and thats why I understand mistakes from any re finisher. Stefan
It was only 30$? damn, i have a Hogan wedge that i would have loved to have refinished. and i wouldnt want to send it to anyother place I hear IF has a LONG turnaround time and Mad Max Charges far too much
zip7111
and Mad Max Charges far too much You may pay more, but the work gets done right. You should see the grooves in my wedges from the iron factory, TERRIBLE. Now I have to pay more to get the wedges done right. I wish I would have just went with Max in the first place. putterboy
Check out www.customclubcoatings.com. Jim does first rate work and he does not charge much. And it takes about 2.5 weeks to get your head back. You can find many pictures of his work on GEA and FGI. He powder coated a old TM Burner 5 wd for me in mirror black for $29. And that included shipping it back to me  He can do many finishes too.

Its obvious you and zip are cheerleaders for BSG, but lets put all aside and look at the work itself. Mad Max don't do the coatings or refinishing he outsources it to another company that specializes in chrome auto parts not golf clubs. I have had 1 set of irons and 5 wedges done by Max's people. the Irons were on par with IF and 2 of the 5 wedges arrived rusting before they even touched grass the other three were refinished by plating Japan due to rusting in the grooves a couple months later but when I got them they looked great! My experience with The Iron Factory was very similar which brings me to the conclusion again that its hit or miss. You either get perfect work or sub standard work. I have only had 2 sets of Irons done by Iron Factory, some of the clubs were perfect some flawed. most flawed. In regards to woods your way off. Show us one pic of the work Max does that can even come close to what Jim can do. Jim is the best no If ands or buts and thats why he does OEM powder coats also for the big boys. Lets compare the pics on the websites they both advertise as their quality work. Custom of CT Custom Club Coatings

Scooter321
Chris, While I do like BSG, I am not a cheerleader, and I do not tout CGC/Mad Max because of BSG. I have been a customer at CGC before BSG even had any connection to them. Max's work is superb, I have seen it in person. Yes, he does outsource some of his stuff, that doesnt change the quality of the work. As far as the woods goes, Jim does absolutly terrific and top notch work. For the price you absolutly can not beat his work. I have seen both his work and Max's work in person. Both of their work is excelent...one is not better than the other. As a matter of fact, since the quality of their work is equal (since i have seen both in person) I would send my woods to Jim because the deals he offers are much better. As far as irons/wedges go, there is no doubt in my mind that Max's stuff is better than the IF. Sure, IF used to do great work, but the quality of their work has stedily been on the decline. There grovework is begining to get messy, and the finish is not holding up well at all. In conclution...if you have woods to refinish both Max and Jim do equal quality work, I would send my stuff to Jim because the quality is as good for a better price. if you have irons/wedges to refinish send it to Max, while it is more expensive than IF, the quality of the work is much better. Greg P.S. I should note that in the catagory of picture taking Max/CGC finish's dead last, their pictures of their work is disgusting and doesnt do it any justice. Jims pictures do his stuff justice, but they still look even better in person.

Haha, I wasnt pissed off. Just stating what I truely believe. I dont like Max because I like BSG....I like him for the quality of what he does. Likewise, Jim does terrific work also (its a shame that he doesnt get more publicity). I am also sick of people ragging on Max/CGC, just because they dont like BSG. They are two seperate entities. putterboy
FWIW, I know Jim does refinish work on putters and irons. If you want to have them powered coated that is. Maybe I missed the part of the OP saying he wanted his irons rechromed. Here is a pic I got off of FGI by a member who had his wedges done by CCC. Because of this pic, I will be sending him my Vokey's!
