How/Why are Japanese companies so "great"?

I'm fairly new here but have noticed that in regards to Tour/Import equipment there are alot of Japanese brands. I'm interested how they became so dominant and respected in regards to quality/performance. I play w/Mizuno T-Zoid Pro's and they are great but some of these I have never even heard of?

Based on what I see from my customers in japan is that they are perfectionists. They put thier pride into everything they do which is why they strive to make the best quality craftsmanship, and put mass market, low quality products aside even though it means extra $$$

I don't only play Import equipment, I play whatever works best for me. I like Japanese equipment especially the ones made and assembled entirely in Japan. The Steel is at a higher quality, the forgery does better more precise work, The people grinding the heads have been doing it for a life time, the head weights, exact loft, lie, date made are labeled on every head before it is assembled. Less is made at a high quality level where only 150 sets of Irons can be made in a month by one man instead of 4000 - 10,000 sets a month mass produced.

Do I still have China made clubs in the bag? Yes ( R7 TP, TM Driving Irons ) nothing is wrong with clubs made in China or the U.S, The amount of Japanese golfers compared to the U.S is very small yet they buy hundreds of millions more a year in golf equipment than the rest of the world. These Ho's have evolved to Freaks, everyone here is obsessed with clubs.

If you've ever been to a high-end restaurant in Japan, their attention to detail will freak you out. There is a sense of pride and tradition that you will see nowhere else in the world and it transcends into all aspects of life. Although I have not visited any club manufacturers there, I can only imagine that their attention to workmanship would naturally yield a superior product. When you hit their clubs, you do notice superior consistency in the product. Whether you can justify the extra $ is something you can only decide for yourself. It's not a question of whether they will make you play better but if you can afford it, owning Japanese clubs will definitely satisfy the "HO" (still don't llike that term) in you far more than buying mass produced clubs.

"HOvana" right Tai...haha? Seriously, a perfect example of what everybody is saying is this: Nike forge Tiger's irons in Japan by Mizuno - not China, USA, Bangladesh, etc. but Japan. Why? Re-read the posts above. I hope that helps! :smile1:

HOvana SCHMOvana! :-) Been 2 weeks and still haven't managed to play my new clubs - I think they came with a jinx!

Indeed Tiger's clubs are a perfect example of why Made in Japan is better.

My surprise is how the Japanese are so "infatuated" when it comes to golf clubs. Like what is the interest with golf clubs/irons/putters. One would assume that some company in England/Ireland would be the dominating company when it comes to this. What is the interest by the Japanese and the seek of perfection with golf equipment. If I remember didn't golf originate in Ireland? I'm not bashing AT ALL. It makes sense that the Germans produce great automobiles. Daimler Benz and Ferry Porsche can be traced into antiquity. But what is it with the Japanese and golf? It would be interesting to read how this great obsession originated..no?

I work with manufacturing vendors in China and Japan. There is no comparison. Japan would whoop China's butt when it comes to quality. The japanese are true perfectionists. They do things right the first time around. China half-asses everything and it takes a few iterations and TONS of money to get the thing that you specified to specification. QA/QC doesn't exist in China. There's a lot of babysitting. China is definitely lower cost but you get what you pay for. Trust me, my company is learning the very hard way.

Yup, Japanese are fanatical perfectionist about everything. Guess that's why Japan had no problems sweeping thru China in WWII.
