lpescato
Lately, irons off the tee have been the bane of my existence. I either get on top of it or get under it too much and hit a weak slice. Anybody know what to do or had this prob? I have tried shortening my backswing and concentrating on following through, turning over my wrists etc. to no avail. I have lowered my tee height and all that. The articles in Golf magazines are no help. It's like a skateboard magazine telling you how to do a trick, it doesnt work. I should add my woods work just fine off the tee -- its irons only. And, I had no problem in previous times, just the last few months.

I find that a lot of people overthink what they are going to do on a par 3, they get kind of aim-y, and the shot is like a check swing in baseball. A golfer in the fairway from 150-200 can often appear more confident about the shot. A quick fix is to take a little more club and punch it. This swing takes the thought out of the shot, and a punch forces you to accelerate through the ball, ensuring clean contact.
hornyjuan
With that kind of inconsistent shot...either coming over the top or getting under to much your probably not rotating around your spine. Make it a conscious effort to rotate around your spine and keep your body/head on the same level plane. When your body starts shifting...your head moves and that throws your mechanics out of wack. I agree with Juan. Also, be aware of your swing plane, that and alignment have the most effect on acuracy. Take enough club and swing within yourself. I have a lesson next week...club championship coming soon though! I pissed myself off I was hitting range balls with irons and that was fine, but then I used my new R7 and didnt move my bag back, and put a little ding in the driver! DOH!
