DoubleAA
Just Read the Article about U.S Gymnast Paul Hamm. This man never quite and still won an Olympic gold medal even after having one of the worst routines of his Lifeblowing his chances at any medal. 1st to 12th to 1st Never give Up!! http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5749182/

phillypete
It seems things aren't so crystal clear... http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/olym...y.ap/index.html
zojo
yeah, paul hamm didn't really win, the judges made a mistake in the scoring, which means the 3rd place korean should have won gold. It makes sense because theres no way you can fall like that in the olympics and still get the gold
phillypete
I think the olymics needs to take note from the X-Games... the more scientific they try to make these sports like gymnastics the more trouble they get into. Its so boring to watch gymnastics, there is so little personality and expression to what they do. I think they need to loosen the reigns a little on these atheletes. I'd like to see freestyle gymnastics purely subjective scoring no requirements... and each athlete gets 3 tries and they keep the best score. And here is the bonus... as gymnasts push the limits since they get three tries brutal crashes will become a regular occurance... and everyone knows people love to watch other people beat the crap out of themselves. DoubleAA
What happened has happened, still does not defeat the meaning of the topic, yes he won by misjudgement, hopefully he will be bigger man and give up the gold to Korea but, the fact still remains, he NEVER GAVE UP despite the fall. After that he never should have been in the running but, others fell just as bad.
zojo
yeah, others fell just as bad, and got even worse scores. To me, theres just no way you can make a of that magnitude and still win the gold, i mean, its the olympics
shoe295
Olympic gymnastics scoring is SHAMEFUL...they need to be told get your fuggin' act together or here's the door...after that vaulting f*** up in Sidney you think you'd get your poop together but apparently these morons want to be mistaken for figure skating judges... :-)
DoubleAA
You really wonder if they actually pay attention to what they are supposed to be judging. Some of the blunders they make are impossible to believe. In any event, if you are in contention and crash, all hope should be lost! Why is it so hard to realize what your objective is. Instant Replay Baby!!! (Kidding)
