joey3108
A lot of you complaining about how thingy the sound of R7 is. I accidentally found where most of it coming from. I was reshafting a tour head and need additional weight, as you know most of tour issue have no additional weights. So i took the 2 grams weight and at the shallow section i wraped around lead tape ( you can add it up all the way up to 6 grams, 8 grams total ) and installed the screw back and tried it on the the net. I was surprice that two tone ting sound is gone. So the impact vibration create the screws area( epecially the 2 grams ) act like a tuning fork. I was even more curious at this time ( you know me ), I took a rubber seal for window and doors that has a self adhesive on it and wraped it around the 2 grams screws slightly oversize and wraped around the 10 grams screws w/ double tape for the grip. True enough! It makes it sound more solid ( not muted ), no ringing or two tone sound anymore. BTW, for you who need to add 1-2 sw you can use my technique on adding the weight by wraping around the lead tape around the 2 grams screws. Good luck! robbie
Now thats a kewl discovery...i think ya can mail that info to TM...they do outsource some R&D work...maybe ya can serve as part of their extensive advisory staff......almost everybody has complained about the tingy noise !!!! this is the first cure that makes good scientific sense
hornyjuan
HAHA....no more cotton method for me. I heard of a guy who got too greedy with the cotton in his R7...took his swingweight up to D9. Joe does the tape make it hard to screw in the screws or does it fit real snug? joey3108
Thanks Guys! I wish i can just work on the R&D dept... thinker and hit ball all day long. :smile1: Juan, if you are talking about lead tape, Just don't go over the width of the screw to far. It should be OK because the hole shape is taper, so it'll squeez tightly. But if you are talking rubber, i would do 1/16" over. Let it squeez and fill every space tightly. Basically it react like Royal collection 3 wood the one w/ robber plug on them, compare it w/ sonartec version. The RC feel much more solid and a lot less thingy. murch
TM has {for a few months now} made some new weights that are coated with a light blue color rubber, I have actually used them during assembly of some R7's the lead tape would do a similar thing I'm sure. primo
Very intersting stuff Joe! I just installed 4 rubber O rings into my driver. I'm going to test it out today I'll let you guys know if it is an improvement over the cotton.
SHADY
After reading ways to quiet the r7, I came up with an easy way to stop that loud sound without lead tape, two-sided tape, and rubber rings. I got two small thin rubber bands and wrapped each one around the 2 gram weights. The rubber not only deadens the sounds but the bands help fill up the empty space between the screws and the head. Seems to work well for me hope this helps you.
emcgolfer
Have to say I noticed the same thing. I purchased an R7 TP and it came with the 2g weight in the front. Hitting it, it sounded very tiny and I thought I just blew $600 bean. Wanting to stick with it and get the ball flight down, I changed the 2 front weights to the 6g screws and man what a difference. Sound is much better, ball pattern is better and I don't have to fire sale this thing on ebay! It really is a great driver and has kicked my 983e out of the bag...........and that was not an easy task!
